posted my first real edit and people keep saying it looks fake?

ok so this has been bugging me for a few days. i put together a short video from a coastal shoot i did, maybe 90 seconds long, mixed some stills in there with the video clips and honestly i thought it turned out pretty solid for a beginner. posted it to a couple facebook groups and like half the comments are people saying it looks cgi or that i must have used a simulator or something

i dont really get it because i didnt do anything crazy in the grade, just used a free lut from youtube and bumped the clarity a little in lightroom on the photos. is there something about aerial footage that makes it look fake to people who arent used to seeing it? or did i actually overdo something without realizing. genuinely cant tell anymore after staring at it for so long

so i've been flying my mini 3 for about 6 months now and i think i'm finally starting to get the hang of manual settings. went out to the reservoir near my place last tuesday around golden hour and got some stuff im actually not embarrassed to share lol

the colors came out way better than i expected, i had ND16 on and dialed the exposure down a bit more than usual because the sun was just killing everything. ended up with this slow pull-back reveal shot that i've been trying to nail for months and it actually worked this time. posted it to my instagram but honestly i'd rather get feedback from people who actually fly

anyone wanna take a look and tell me what they think? mostly wondering if the color grade feels too heavy or if the transitions between clips are too slow. i tend to overdo the lut sometimes

ok so this is kind of embarassing but i put my first real edit up on instagram yesterday. its like 90 seconds of footage from this coastal area near me, took me a while to cut it together and i was pretty happy with how it turned out. got a few nice comments but also a couple people saying the footage looked "floaty" and one person said my LUTs were overdone which honestly stung a bit because i spent ages on the colour.

im using the mavic 3 classic and shooting in d-log m so theres definitely some grading involved. is floaty just like a style thing or is that actually a problem with how im flying? genuinely cant tell if its a critiism or just preference. maybe i should post it here too and get some more opinions before i decide if i need to change anything

so ive been flying for about 8 months now and honestly most of my early stuff was garbage, shaky horizon, wrong exposure, you name it. but last weekend i drove out to this reservoir about 40 mins from my house and the light was just insane. got like 20 minutes of golden hour footage before the battery died on me.

been editing in resolve and tried to keep the grade pretty natural, didnt go crazy with the saturation or anything. posted it on youtube if anyone wants to take a look, link in my profile. would genuinely love some feedback because im trying to figure out if my movement speed is still too fast on the orbit shots. feels rushed to me but maybe thats just because i know how it was filmed

ok so i put together about 3 minutes of clips from a hike i did last month and posted it to one of the facebook drone groups and the response was... not what i expected. couple people said the transitions were too fast and one guy just commented "shaky" which, fair, i was still figuring out the gimbal settings on my first flight with this thing

its not that bad is it? im using a holy stone hs720 which i know isnt exactly a cinematic powerhouse but i thought the footage was decent for what it is. maybe i shouldnt have posted until i had better gear idk. kinda bummed about it

so i took the mini 4 pro out to the coast last weekend, conditions were pretty much perfect, like 8mph winds and golden hour hit just right. ive been flying for about a year now and i feel like this is the first time the footage actually looks like something i'd watch myself lol

dropped it unlisted on youtube if anyone wants to take a look ? mostly just slow orbits around the pier and one low pass along the waterline that came out way better than expected. the color grading is still something im working on, i tend to over saturate and i know it, just cant help myself

anyone else find beach shots are way easier to make look good than like, suburban stuff? i struggle so much when theres no natural leading lines or interesting horizon

i dunno maybe im doing something wrong but every time i fly at the beach the shots just look flat and kinda generic. like water, sand, repeat. ive seen other peoples coastal stuff and it looks amazing but mine always looks like a real estate ad. i was out at the inlet last week with pretty decent conditions, little bit of wave action, pelicans doing their thing, and i still came home with nothing i was excited about.

do you guys plan your shots beforehand or just kinda freestyle it and see what happens? im thinking maybe im just flying too high and not getting close enough to the water surface but im nervous about it honestly

so i took the mini 3 out saturday morning around 6am because the light looked insane from my window and honestly im really happy with how it turned out. did a slow orbit around the old grain elevator on the edge of town, the one thats been abandoned for like 20 years. fog was still sitting low in the fields and the golden hour light was cutting through it perfectly.

not sure about my color grade though, i went pretty heavy with the teal and orange and now im second guessing it. also my transitions feel a bit choppy in the edit but thats more a premiere problem than a flying problem i think. anyway ill drop the link if anyone wants to watch, would love honest feedback not just 'great job bro' type stuff

anyone else feel like their footage never looks as good as when you filmed it

this has been bugging me for a while. i go out, everything feels cinematic in the moment, wind is right, light is perfect, im flying smooth ? then i get home dump the cards and its just... fine. like its fine but its not what i felt when i was flying it. dont know if its the screen im editing on or if im just bad at translating what i saw into the final cut or what. happened again last weekend over some cliffs and i was so sure i had something great

so ive been flying my mini 3 pro out at the reservoir near my house for a few weeks now trying to nail that golden hour look and i think i finally got something worth sharing. the colors just came together right and i managed to get a slow pull-back while the sun was hitting the water perfectly. not gonna lie i almost lost the drone trying to get the angle but it was worth it lol

posted it to my youtube channel, its only like 47 seconds but i think its the best thing ive filmed so far. would love actual feedback not just "nice video" comments, like tell me if the exposure looks off or if the movement is too fast or whatever. i edited it in davinci resolve and i still dont fully know what im doing in there so be honest

rooftop shots turned out way different than i expected

okay so i was doing a job for a buddy who runs a small architecture firm and he wanted some rooftop shots of this building downtown. nothing too complicated, just wanted clean angles showing off the design. i went in thinking itd be easy, like point and shoot basically.

but the wind up there was really pushing the bird around and i kept getting this slight wobble in the stills that i didn't notice until i got home and looked at them on a big screen. some were fine but maybe a third of the batch had this kind of motion softness around the edges. ended up using maybe half of what i shot which felt embarassing honestly. is this a shutter speed thing or am i just not correcting for wind properly when i take the shot

so ive been flying my mini 3 for about 6 months now and i think i finally got a shot im actually proud of. went out to the reservoir near my place around 6:30pm last tuesday and just kinda hovered and let the colors do the work. the golden hour stuff people always talk about is real, i get it now.

the clip is about 40 seconds, slow push forward over the water with the sun just hitting the treeline. nothing crazy but it felt right. ill post the link once i figure out how to compress it without it looking like garbage. anyone else shooting at that time of day getting good results or is it just luck every time

went out with the air 2s yesterday afternoon, golden hour kind of thing, wasnt really planning to shoot anything serious just messing around. ended up getting this one photo of a field with these long shadows cutting across it from some trees and i actually really like it but im not sure if its like technically good or if im just happy cause it was a nice day. shadows were super harsh in some of the others and i didnt shoot in raw which i know i know dont @ me. anyway if anyone wants to see ill upload later just wanted to see if theres interest before i bother

so ive been flying my mini 3 for like 6 months now and never really felt confident enough to share anything but i went out to the coast last weekend and got a few clips im actually happy with. mostly low altitude stuff following the waterline, did a slow reverse pull back from the rocks which i thought came out pretty nice. color grading is still a mess tho, i just threw on a log profile and tried to fix it in premiere and it looks a little washed out still. anyone have a good starting point for grading d-log m footage cause i feel like im always chasing the right white balance after the fact

so i went out last tuesday evening when the light was actually cooperating for once and managed to get like 40 minutes of flight time in before the battery died. shot in d-log this time instead of just leaving it on auto like i usually do and honestly the difference in post is pretty noticeable. still figuring out the color grading stuff but im pretty happy with how it came out.

dropped the link in the comments, would love to know if the exposure looks off to anyone else or if its just my monitor. also not sure if i should have flown lower over the water, felt kinda sketchy with the reflection messing with the altitude sensor

so ive been flying my mini 3 for like 8 months now and yesterday was honestly the first time i felt like i actually got something worth keeping. flew out to the reservoir near my house around 6:30 and the light was just doing its thing, that golden hour stuff people always talk about. i had the ND64 on and kept the shutter at double my frame rate like you're supposed to but the highlights on the water were still getting blown out a little. shot in d-log and brought it into resolve and it came out decent but not amazing.

anyone else find sunset over water way harder to expose for than it looks? i feel like i nail it on land shots but something about the reflection just throws me off every time. happy to share the clip if anyone wants to look at it and tell me what i screwed up lol

not really sure what my question is here i guess im just kind of surprised. does this happen to people a lot where the stuff you think is mediocre does better than the stuff you actually worked hard on

been flying my mini 3 for like 8 months now and i think this is genuinely the first time ive been happy with how footage turned out. went down to the coast saturday evening, winds were maybe 8mph which was fine, and just kind of flew around for 40 minutes doing slow pulls and orbits around the pier. color grading took me forever because i shot in d-log and im still not great at that but i think i finally got something that doesnt look like garbage

if anyone wants to see ill link the youtube later, just wanted to see if anyone else has tips for shooting into the sun without totally blowing out the highlights. i had an nd32 on but still losing detail in the bright spots

ok so ive been lurking here for ages and finally worked up the nerve to share something. this is from a local park near me, flew my mini 3 for the first time without just doing test hovers in my backyard. its only like 90 seconds long. i know the movements are pretty jerky in places, i think i was overcorrecting with the sticks a lot. and there's one bit where the horizon is obviously tilted and i dont know if that happened while i was flying or if i introduced it when i was cutting the clips together.

anyway be honest i can take it, i want to actually get better not just hear nice things

still figuring out color grading in davinci, i do a very light touch because every time i try to get creative with it i make it look worse. anyone else find that? like the footage is better when you barely touch it

yeah this has been a project ive been working on for a few weeks, found this whole block of old industrial buildings that are basically falling apart and got permission from the property management company which took forever but whatever. flew my 5inch freestyle build through the interiors and some of the rooftop gaps and i think some of the lines came out pretty clean.

the problem is im not totally happy with how the video feels overall, like technically the flying is fine but something about the edit just feels off to me. might be the music choice, might be the pacing, genuinely cant tell. my friends say it looks cool but they dont really fly so i wanted to get some opinions from people who actually know what theyre looking at. video is on youtube, just search ghostline fpv warehouse run, should be the first result
