the only real difference i can see is how we've mounted them. mine is kind of tucked along the back arm pointing sort of diagonally back and down because i had a cam angle clearance issue and it was easiest to route the pigtail that way. his is mounted straight up vertical out the back. i always kind of assumed antenna orientation mattered less with circular polarized antennas but maybe im wrong about that? also not sure if the pigtail routing could be causing issues, its a pretty tight bend near the connector.

running fatshark recon v3 goggles with the stock patch on one port and an omni on the other through a diversity receiver, not sure if thats relevant or not

but here's the thing ? when i fly his quad i swear i can feel some kind of lag compared to what im used to. he says im imagining it and that walksnail is like 22ms or whatever but i dunno, flying through tight gaps it just feels slightly off to me. could be placebo could be real. has anyone else felt this when switching over, and did it go away after you adjusted or is this just a thing you live with. im not racing just doing freestyle and the occasional cinematic type stuff.

also open to hearing if HDZero is worth considering instead, i know it has lower latency numbers on paper but the range thing has always made me nervous

running a 600mw vtx (the foxeer one, cant remember exact model) with a cloverleaf on the quad and a pagoda on the goggle side. someone told me i should be running matched circular polarization on both ends but the pagoda is linear isnt it? or is it omnidirectional circular? i genuinely dont know and ive gotten three different answers from three different people

the field has some metal bleachers and a big chain link fence on one side which might be causing reflections but i see other people fly there without the issue. maybe their rx antenna setup is just better. or maybe my vtx is dying, it did take a pretty hard hit a few months ago

should i just throw a pair of TrueRC antennas at the problem or is there something more systematic i should check first

my main thing is i fly mostly freestyle, some light racing, and the latency thing is what scares me about digital. i know DJI has gotten better but my buddy still swears he can feel it on tight gaps. we're talking like sub 28ms now i think? but analog at its best is what, like 5-10ms? the gap is still real right

also i already have a ton of analog VTXs on my builds so switching to DJI means basically rebuilding all of them which is another few hundred bucks minimum. i have like 6 quads. the math gets ugly fast

anyone actually gone back to analog after running DJI for a while or is it genuinely a one way door situation

started looking into it more and now im confused because some guys say 25mw is plenty with a good antenna setup and others say crank it to max always. and then there's the legal side of things which im not even gonna get into because that varies by country and its a whole thing.

also curious if the VTX brand actually matters that much ? ive got some random AKK unit in there and wondering if something like the rush tank or the TBS unify would actually give me a cleaner image or if VTX quality differences are kinda overstated at this point

my VTX right now is a 600mw unit on 5.8 and i'm running the stock dipole that came with the goggles. i know i know, everyone tells me the antennas are the first thing to upgrade but i genuinely don't know where to start. like do i get a cloverleaf and a patch combo? just go full crosshair? ive seen people swear by the lumenier axii and others say the TBS triumph is the move. and then there's the whole receiver module situation on the goggles side which is its own rabbit hole.

not really looking to drop $300+ on new goggles yet, more wondering if upgrading the antenna setup on my current gear would give me a noticeable bump before i commit to anything bigger

someone at the field mentioned the pagoda antenna design and said it outperforms lollipops in most real world scenarios but i couldnt really get a clear answer on why from him. is this actually true or is it one of those things that doesnt matter much in practice. also curious if mixing polarization between transmitter and receiver side is actually hurting me or if diversity sort of compensates for that.

anyway ive been looking at the fat shark dominator hd3 vs just grabbing a pair of skyzone 04x goggles and i genuinely cant decide. the skyzone ones seem to have better reception with the diversity receivers built in but the fat sharks have that modular bay thing which i kind of like the idea of. mostly flying 5 inch freestyle and some light racing, not doing cinematic stuff at all so resolution isnt the biggest deal to me i think.

also what vtx should i pair with whichever goggles i go with ? running a 200mw vtx right now on my quad and wondering if thats enough or if i should bump to 400 or 600mw for the field we fly at which is pretty open with some tree lines around the edges.

the latency on hdzero is supposedly better but every time i watch comparison videos the actual footage quality from avatar looks noticeably nicer to me. i do a lot of park flying and some light gates stuff, not racing but i like to rip pretty quick. also my buddy has hdzero goggles and i could use his rx module in mine but then im locked into that ecosystem i guess.

anyone running either of these on a smaller build and have opinions? mainly concerned about reliability and whether the eco vtx thermals are actually a problem in real use

my buddy keeps telling me antenna polarization doesnt matter that much at 200mw but i feel like he's wrong and now i have receipts basically. running dji o3 on my other quad so most of my analog experience is pretty limited but still. anyone else gone through this kind of upgrade or is there something else that could explain the improvement

my gut says its an antenna polarization or placement issue because the dropout almost always happens when the quad is side-on to me and the antennas are tilting away but i really dont know enough about RF stuff to be sure. the pagodas are mounted flat on top of the frame which probably isnt ideal but i ran out of room on the back. also the vtx is set to 600mw not the full 1w because i heard pushing it to max causes heat issues with this particular one, dont remember which brand it is off the top of my head.

my main concern is the latency thing. i fly mostly tight wooded tracks, not big open stuff, so any extra ms feels like it matters. ive read conflicting stuff online, some people say you adjust in like 20 minutes of flying, others say they went back to analog after a week. anyone actually made this switch and stuck with it for a while? also wondering about the VTX side because i dont want to rebuild all my quads if the price per VTX is gonna add up fast.

running a rushfpv tank solo 5.8ghz at 400mw on a 5inch, goggles are fatshark attitude v6. the antenna on the vtx is an ummatoo or something, one of those stubby ones that came with a random build kit. ive reseated the sma connector twice already. not sure if its a power issue, a loose connection thats only loose under g-force, or if the antenna itself is just crap. maybe all three

anyone dealt with this kind of intermittent stuff before, its so hard to debug when it wont show up on the bench

i initially thought it was a heat issue since the vtx is kind of tucked in tight but i added some airflow and it didnt change anything. temperature readout in the osd doesnt look crazy high either. tried different channels, tried different power levels as the default, nothing consistent

running betaflight 4.4 if that matters, fc is a mamba f405. ive reflashed the vtx firmware once already

antennas are a lollipop on the quad and my goggles are fatshark HDO2 with the stock antennas which i know are not great. ive already reseated the antenna connector on the vtx twice because i read that can cause issues but still getting the dropouts. also the vtx does get pretty warm, not sure if thats normal or if thats part of the problem. anyone dealt with this before

also i borrowed a guys Fatshark Dominator V3 with a rapidfire module at the track last weekend and honestly it didnt look as bad as i expected? like the skyzone goggles some people have look genuinely pretty decent. so now im down a rabbit hole comparing fatshark recon vs skyzone cobra vs HDO2 and im confusing myself. my main question is really about whether going back to analog for racing specifically is worth it or if im just romanticizing something because the fast guys at my track use it
