DJI FPV drone keeps drifting in normal mode, no idea what i did

this is probably something stupid i did but here goes. been flying the DJI FPV for about 6 months no real issues, was out yesterday and at some point it just started drifting noticeably to the left in normal mode. sport mode seems fine or at least i couldnt tell as much because everything moves fast. normal mode it just slides left when i let go of the sticks.

i did do a firmware update like two days before this happened so now im wondering if i somehow messed up a calibration step or if the update itself did something. i did the IMU calibration after the update because i read you should but maybe i did it on an unlevel surface or something, i was kind of rushing.

havent touched the compass cal yet. flying in the same spot ive always flown. anyone had this happen

so ive been flying the original Avata for about a year now and honestly love it, got pretty comfortable in manual mode and the goggles 2 setup is great for cruising around tight spaces. but the Avata 2 keeps catching my eye and i cant tell if its actually a meaningful upgrade or if DJI just shuffled some specs around and slapped a 2 on it.

the thing that gets me is the obstacle sensing on the original was always kind of a joke in any real flying scenario so i just turned it off. if the Avata 2 actually improved that in a meaningful way id be interested. also heard the video quality took a step up but im already pretty happy with what the original outputs to the goggles, not like im doing paid work with this thing.

anyone made the jump? genuinely curious if you actually notice the difference day to day or if its one of those things where you only see it in a side by side comparison video someone spent 3 hours color grading

okay so i've been going back and forth on this for weeks now. i want to get into fpv but i dont want to build a quad from scratch, i just want something that works out of the box that i can actually fly without destroying on my first session. my budget can stretch to either one if i shop smart but not both obviously.

from what i can tell the Avata is more locked down, lighter, better for indoor/tight spaces, has the obstacle sensing stuff. the FPV drone is faster and more of a proper cinematic fpv feel but way less forgiving. i mostly want to fly outdoors, some light freestyle maybe, get decent footage of myself hiking or biking with friends. not trying to race or anything crazy.

the thing nobody seems to answer directly is how much harder the FPV drone is to fly day to day. like is the Avata actually good enough for real fpv footage or does it feel like a dumbed down toy. genuinely cant tell from youtube reviews because they all have an agenda

so ive had my DJI FPV for about 3 months now and mostly fly in normal mode still getting comfortable but last weekend i finally tried sport mode for the first time and above maybe 80kph i start getting this weird wobble or oscillation, its hard to describe but it feels like the drone is fighting itself a little. not a prop issue i checked those and balanced them, and the gimbal footage looks fine its just the feel through the goggles and the sticks.

running latest firmware, no mods, stock props. anyone else experienced this or is this just how the drone feels at speed and i need to get used to it? i came from flying a phantom 4 so fpv flight in general is still kind of new to me.

ok so my range on the FPV drone has been fine, like i'm not pushing legal limits or anything, but i've been reading about people doing antenna mods and getting noticeably better signal in urban environments with interference. i fly mostly in a semi-suburban area and sometimes get the occasional dropout warning even at like 400 meters which seems wrong.

someone on reddit mentioned replacing the stock antennas on the goggles v2 with aftermarket pagoda or lollipop style antennas and said it helped a lot. but then someone else said the stock system is already well tuned and messing with it can cause more problems than it solves. im not an RF engineer obviously so i have no idea who to believe. the drone itself is still under the one year so i dont want to void anything if it wont actually help

so ive been flying the Avata for about a month now and the first two weeks were rough. like genuinely felt nauseated after every session even with just 10-15 minutes in the goggles. i was flying mostly in normal mode because i was scared to touch manual obviously, but even the smooth stabilized footage was making my stomach turn.

talked to a few people locally and they said its common and just goes to take time. they werent wrong i guess because around week three something clicked and now i can do 45+ minute sessions no problem. but i'm curious if anyone has tips they wish they'd known earlier, like whether brightness settings or the IPD adjustment made a difference for them. i feel like i had my IPD slightly off for the first week and that probably made it worse

okay so this has been driving me crazy for about two weeks now. I switched to manual mode for the first time a few months ago and after a bunch of practice I'm reasonably comfortable with it, not doing anything crazy just some long flowing passes in a big field. But every once in a while, maybe once or twice per flight, the drone just like dips suddenly for half a second before recovering. It's not a crash, it corrects itself but it's enough to ruin a shot and honestly kind of freaks me out because I don't know what's causing it.

It happened on two different sets of batteries so I don't think its that. Props are fine, checked them. I did update firmware recently actually, maybe around the time it started? Not sure if that's connected. Signal looks fine in the goggles when it happens. Anyone had anything like this or have a clue where to start

So ive had the original DJI FPV since basically launch and I've put a stupid amount of hours on it. Love the thing, only crashed it hard once and it survived better than I expected. But I keep seeing people talk about the Avata 2 and I'm honestly not sure if it's meant to be a replacement or like a different product entirely.

My main thing is I fly a mix of outdoor open spaces and occasionally tight indoor stuff, warehouses and empty buildings mostly. The original FPV feels almost too big and fast for indoor use honestly, I usually have to dial it down a lot in the DJI Fly app to keep it manageable. Does the Avata 2 actually handle tighter spaces better or is that just marketing. Also wondering about the goggles situation, do I need to buy new goggles if I switch or does the Goggles 3 work with both.

Not looking to sell the FPV drone necessarily, more just curious if anyone has actually flown both and has an honest opinion rather than a review that reads like a press release

this has been driving me insane for the last few weeks. mid flight the video feed just cuts for like half a second maybe a full second then comes back. no warning, no pattern i can figure out, happens in open fields same as near buildings so its not obvious interference. the drone doesnt RTH or anything it just drops the feed and snaps back like nothing happened.

ive checked the obvious stuff, antennas look fine on the goggles, tried a different frequency band, updated everything to latest firmware. signal strength on screen looks normal right up until it drops. its not a huge deal safety wise since it recovers but its annoying and a little nervewracking when youre doing a fast low pass and suddenly youre blind for a second.

not sure if this is a goggles issue or something on the drone side. anyone dealt with this

so ive had the DJI FPV combo since pretty much launch and honestly its been solid for what i use it for, mostly just cruise flying around parks and the occasional fast pass over a field. the goggles 2 setup works great and i got used to the motion controller which took forever btw but now feels completely natural.

thing is the Avata 2 keeps catching my eye and ive been trying to figure out if theres a real reason to switch or if im just gassing myself into spending money i dont need to spend. the obstacle avoidance on the Avata line is obviously a bigger deal for tighter spaces but i fly mostly open air so maybe that doesnt matter. and i know the Avata 2 is physically smaller which has its appeal but does that actually change the flying feel in normal mode vs manual mode or does it feel roughly the same in the goggles.

anyone gone from the OG FPV to Avata 2 and have thoughts? not looking for a spec sheet comparison i can read that myself, more curious how it actually feels day to day

this has been bugging me for a while and im at the point where im just posting because i've run out of ideas. The drone drifts left pretty consistently in normal mode, not a huge amount but enough that i have to constantly correct and it shows up in footage. Done the IMU calibration on flat surfaces, done compass cal outdoors away from metal, checked the props and they all look fine, no visible damage.

Its on the DJI FPV not the Avata. Firmware is current. Happens with both the standard controller and when i switch to the motion controller. Someone on another thread mentioned it could be a gimbal calibration thing but i didnt really follow the logic there. Anyone seen this before or know what im missing.

So ive had the original Avata since basically launch and put maybe 80+ hours on it, mostly indoor flying in warehouses and some light outdoor stuff with the goggles 2. Its been solid honestly, had one crash that cracked a prop guard and thats it. But the Avata 2 has been sitting in my cart for like 3 weeks now and i cant decide.

The main thing pulling me is the obstacle avoidance and what people are saying about the stabilization improvements but i genuinely cant tell if thats just the usual DJI hype cycle or if its a real meaningful difference for the kind of flying i do. I dont do crazy acro, mostly cinematic slow pushes through tight spaces, architecture stuff occasionally. Anyone actually switched over from v1 to v2 and noticed a real world difference in footage quality or is the original still plenty capable for that use case.

ok so ive been flying 3 inch cinewhoops for about a year and a half now, mostly indoor stuff and tight spots, and ive been thinking about stepping up to something with a bit more range and smoother footage for outdoor work. my buddy has the avata and another guy in our local group has the full dji fpv drone. flew both briefly but not long enough to really get a feel for either.

from what i can tell the avata feels way closer to what im used to in terms of the ducted prop thing and how it handles, but the image quality seems like a step down compared to the fpv unit? or maybe im wrong about that. also the motion controller idea on the avata honestly seems kind of gimmicky to me but i know some people swear by it for smooth cinematic moves. would probably just use the regular controller anyway.

mainly curious what people who fly both actually think, not just specs on paper. like which one would you actually take to a shoot

so this has been driving me insane for like two weeks now. im flying in manual mode (well, sport mode actually, not full manual) and randomly the thing just drops back to normal mode on its own. doesnt happen every flight but maybe once every three or four flights and usually when im doing a faster banked turn. checked the controller binding, everything looks fine. firmware is up to date as of last week.

its not like i accidentally hit the mode switch, ive triple checked that. the goggles show the mode change happening but theres nothing in the flight logs that really explains why. anyone else had this or know what causes it? its not dangerous exactly but it scared me pretty good the first time it happened over a parking lot

this has been bugging me for a while and i finally decided to just post about it. flying my Avata in manual mode (full manual, acro basically) and theres this consistent drift to the left when im trying to hold a hover or do slow cinematic stuff. its not huge but its noticeable enough that im constantly correcting and it shows up in the footage.

already tried IMU calibration and compass cal, didnt really change anything. the motors all look fine visually, props are balanced as far as i can tell. running the RC Motion 2 but i also tried with the standard RC controller and same issue so its not the controller. firmware is current.

honestly not sure if im just being too sensitive about it or if there's actually something off. my buddy flew it and said he didnt really notice but hes on the FPV drone mostly and not used to how the Avata handles. anyone dealt with this kind of thing?

my main thing is the image quality feels a little soft on the v2 sometimes, especially in lower light, and i keep seeing people talk about how much better the Goggles 2 are for the Avata specifically. but like... is that actually true or is it just youtube gear hype. the v2s work totally fine for me and i dont want to drop another 400+ just to get marginally better micro OLED or whatever.

anyone running both drones on the Goggles 2 that can give an honest take? particularly curious if the field of view difference is as noticeable as people say

ive done the IMU calibration twice now through the app and the compass calibration as well. props are balanced and ive checked them visually, nothing looks bent. the goggles are on firmware 01.00.0600 and the aircraft is on the latest too. flying in an open field so no interference issues i can think of.

is there something specific about manual mode that would cause this that the other modes compensate for? feels like maybe its a trim issue but i cant find a trim setting anywhere in the DJI fly app for this thing. am i missing something obvious here

so ive been flying the original Avata for about a year now mostly indoors, tight spaces, abandoned buildings that kind of thing, and honestly its been solid. but ive been seeing a lot of people jumping to the Avata 2 and im not sure if its worth the cash for my use case specifically.

the sensor upgrade is the obvious thing everyone talks about but like for indoor flying where im usually in low light anyway, does the 1/1.3 inch sensor actually make a noticeable difference over the original? or is it more of a outdoor / bright light thing. also heard the obstacle avoidance is better but the Avata 1 already felt pretty good to me in that regard, never really had issues with it hitting stuff.

mostly asking because im sitting here watching a sale on the original and wondering if i should just grab a second one as a backup or actually invest in the 2. someone talk me out of or into this

okay so background: ive been flying Mavics for about 4 years, got the Mini 3 Pro, had a Air 2S before that, pretty comfortable with all the DJI ecosystem stuff. i want to get into FPV and ive been going back and forth between the original DJI FPV and the Avata for probably two months now reading every review i can find and i feel like i know less than when i started.

the price difference isnt a huge deal to me honestly. what im trying to figure out is which one is actually better for someone who wants to learn FPV properly but also isnt going to be doing like hardcore racing or anything. i want to fly through trees, get some cinematic footage, maybe eventually try manual mode but im not in a rush. the DJI FPV looks more capable in some ways but the Avata seems safer? i dont know. anyone gone through this decision

so ive been flying the Avata for about 3 months now mostly in normal and sport mode and its been fine, super stable, no complaints. but i've been slowly trying to get into manual mode and every time i let off the sticks the thing just kind of drifts and wobbles, like its not holding attitude at all. i know thats kind of the whole point of acro but it feels way more unstable than i expected, like im fighting it constantly.

i did the manual mode unlock thing through the fly app, went through all the steps. my motion controller is set aside for now im using the standard RC controller that came with the combo. not sure if my rates are too aggressive out of the box or what. ive watched some videos and other peoples Avatas look way smoother than mine feels. could be a tuning thing, could be me, honestly not sure which

okay so after debating it for way too long i picked up the Avata 2 combo with the goggles 3 and honestly my first impression is that its a bigger jump than i expected. the original Avata was already a capable little thing but the image quality through the goggles 3 is noticeably sharper and the latency feels tighter, like there's just less of that slight lag feeling i had gotten used to and kind of stopped noticing until now.

the prop guard integration feels more solid too, had a couple close calls with walls in the original where the guards would flex in a way that made me nervous. these feel more locked in. that said im still getting used to the slightly different feel in manual mode, the Avata 2 seems to respond a touch differently on the pitch axis, snappier maybe? or maybe im just imagining things after not flying for two weeks while waiting for it to arrive.

anyone else made this switch? curious if the pitch thing is something others noticed or if its just me recalibrating. also wondering if the ND filter sets from the first Avata fit this one because i've got a full set of polar pros sitting here and no idea if theyre compatible.

so ive been flying my DJI FPV for about 4 months now and lately ive been getting this weird micro-stutter in the video feed when im in N mode, like the image just hitches for half a second every now and then. doesnt seem to happen as much in sport mode which is weird. the drone itself flies fine as far as i can tell, no weird behavior, just the feed in the goggles looks off.

im running the v2 goggles and the RC motion controller, link is on channel 8 and im in a pretty open area so i dont think its interference. firmware is up to date on everything. anyone else seen this or know if its a known issue? starting to wonder if its the goggles cable or something on the transmission side.

okay so i've had the original Avata for about a year and i genuinely love it for what i use it for, mostly slow indoor stuff, warehouses, a few abandoned buildings (legally, before anyone says anything), some forest gaps. the image is good enough for what i need and i've gotten pretty dialed in with the motion controller 2 for the smoother stuff and switching to RC motion for tighter spots.

the Avata 2 looks nice and the O4 transmission is obviously better on paper but i honestly dont fly far enough for that to matter much. the thing that keeps catching my eye is the wider FOV and the low light improvement, the original can get pretty grainy once light drops off even a little. but is it actually that much better in practice? im not trying to spend another 1100 bucks if its just marginal gains and slightly better specs on a chart. anyone gone from one to the other and actually noticed a real difference day to day?

so ive been flying the DJI FPV for about 4 months now, mostly in manual mode once i got comfortable with the goggles v2 setup. thing is, lately its been randomly dropping into attitude mode mid-flight with no warning, just kind of loses the locked GPS feel and starts drifting. it happened twice last week over a field which was fine but if that happens near trees im in trouble.

im not hitting the switch accidentally, ive checked that like a dozen times. signal seems fine, usually flying within 200-300m. running the latest firmware i think, updated maybe 6 weeks ago. not sure if theres been something pushed since then. anyone seen this or know what usually causes it? its starting to make me nervous about taking it anywhere technical.

This has been bugging me for a few weeks now. Flying in normal and sport mode, nothing crazy, and i'll get these random signal dropouts that last maybe half a second but enough to freak me out. It happens maybe once or twice per flight and not always in the same location so it doesnt seem like a fixed interference source. Im running the stock antennas on the goggles and havent modded anything.

I did update the firmware a couple months ago and i want to say it started sometime after that but honestly cant be 100% sure because i wasn't paying close attention to when exactly it started. Flying mostly in semi-rural area with some power lines maybe 200 meters away but those have always been there. Anyone dealt with something similar or have ideas where to start diagnosing this
