the Crux35 appeals to me because it packs smaller and i can throw it in carry-on without worrying but the Nazgul5 is gonna be so much more fun in open space and the video quality difference on the caddx polar vs whatever the crux ships with is noticeable. i dont know. the Nazgul also needs a better tune out of the box last time i checked, at least thats what i remember reading. has anyone flown both recently or have a take on this? weight limits on the trip arent an issue its more just convenience vs performance thing.

obviously the vtx antenna placement is a little whatever, moved it almost immediately, and the camera angle felt too flat for my flying style but thats like a 2 min fix. overall im not telling people to stop building but if youre short on time or just want something to fly on a tuesday night without troubleshooting for 2 hours, a decent prebuilt isnt the terrible option i always assumed it was. anyone else been running this frame or had similar experience coming from a building background?

the Nazgul actually doesnt feel bad at all. out of the box the tune is pretty smooth, propwash on hard reversals is noticeable but not terrible. my scratch build still feels crisper on quick direction changes and the roll rate just feels more... alive? hard to describe. but for the price difference its honestly impressive how close it is.

one thing that bugged me is the VTX power felt a little weak in my area compared to what im used to, might swap it out or just boost it in the CLI. also the camera angle was way too low for how i fly, like 10 degrees, bumped it to 25 and it felt way better immediately. anyway just thought id share since i see a lot of people asking if prebuilts are worth it. answer is kind of yes now, at least for a backup or loaner quad.

been looking at the iFlight Nazgul and the Diatone Roma F5 mostly, but honestly the prebuilt market has changed so much i dont even know whats considered good right now. last prebuilt i touched was an older BNF setup that flew like garbage out of the box and i had to basically retune everything anyway so it kind of defeated the purpose.

is there a 5inch prebuilt these days that actually flies decent without touching the tune? or is that still wishful thinking. budget is probably around 250-300 shipped, freestyle not racing.

main thing im trying to figure out is which one handles better at the kind of slower more floaty flying that 7 inch is supposed to be good at. im used to snappy 5 inch freestyle so im expecting an adjustment period either way but i dont want something that feels like flying a school bus. also the GPS rescue stuff matters to me since ill be flying further out than im used to. anyone gone through this exact comparison or switched from 5 to 7 inch and has thoughts?

im running it on 6s and getting around 4-4.5 minute flight times which i know isnt amazing but the packs i have are older 1300s so that tracks. curious if anyone else has this frame and whether you went stock tune or redid the whole thing from scratch. also wondering if the frame arms are as fragile as people say, havent binned it hard yet but im a bit nervous about the arm thickness compared to my old builds.

main thing i care about is how it flys stock. i dont really want to spend a weekend tuning, just want to charge the battery and go. budget is flexible but not trying to drop more than 350 USD on the quad itself not counting goggles and radio obviously. what are people actually flying right now that they'd recommend without a ton of caveats.

my buddy says O3 is night and day but hes also the kind of guy who upgrades everything every 6 months so i dunno how much i trust his opinion lol. anyone actually done a real comparison or switched from analog to O3 on a prebuilt and felt like it was actually worth the price jump? flying mostly freestyle in open areas, not racing or anything super technical.

from what i can tell the Pavo25 runs 2S which should give it noticeably more authority in the air but i've also heard the VTX thermals are an issue on it? or maybe that was an older version. the Mobula8 can run 2S too i think but im seeing conflicting info about whether you need a different battery config for that.

anyone been flying either of these for more than like 2 months and can say how they're holding up durability wise, thats kind of more important to me than outright performance honestly since i crash a lot still

main question is ? with prebuilts at this price range do you usually still need to do a lot of tuning out of the box or do they fly decent enough to at least have fun while you dial it in. i run Betaflight and im not scared of the configurator but i dont want to spend more time debugging than flying if that makes sense

my main thing is i want something that can handle some mild freestyle but also i do a lot of slower proximity flying around trees and stuff so it doesnt need to be a race quad. i dont have a ton of space to do big open field rips. also already have a decent soldering setup and betaflight experience so im not scared of doing some tuning, just dont want something that needs major surgery before it flies well

picked up the Diatone Roma F5 V2 about three weeks ago and have maybe 15 packs through it so far. overall pretty happy but it def needed some work out of the box. the default betaflight tune is... fine? like it flies but there's this mid throttle oscillation that was driving me nuts especially on slower cinematic style lines. dropped the D term a bit on pitch and roll and bumped up the feed forward slightly and it smoothed out a lot. also the vtx power settings were way lower than they should've been by default, took me a while to figure out why i was getting such bad video range

motors get warm but not hot, running 6S 1300mah which seems to be the sweet spot. anyone else running this frame or the V3 that came out recently? curious if the tune on the newer version is any better from the factory

the vtx wiring on mine was kind of a mess internally, like whoever assembled it just crammed the wires in and hoped for the best. had a short after my second flight. nothing burned but it was close

im not saying prebuilts are bad, i think for a true beginner they make sense because at least you have something that was tested at the factory. but the marketing of these things as plug and play is a stretch. curious if others have had similar experiences or if i just got unlucky with a bad unit from the batch

flying mostly open fields, some light woods. running dji o3 already so thats the ecosystem im locked into

im on a radiomaster pocket with ELRS, 1000hz packet rate, all that should be fine. the betaflight version it came with i havent touched because i didnt want to mess anything up before i figured out whats wrong first. battery is usually a 300mah 1s or sometimes 2s depending which ones charged, and i fly mostly indoors.

tried watching some tuning videos but they all assume you already know what youre looking for in the blackbox and i cant really read those graphs well enough yet to know if what im seeing is normal or not. anyone had this with a meteor or similar prebuilt and fixed it without going completely down the rabbit hole

the crux3 is like $40-50 more depending where you look and i know it flies better on paper but is it actually noticeable day to day or is that just spec sheet stuff. im mostly flying in my backyard and occasionally hitting a small abandoned warehouse nearby, nothing crazy technical. i dont race or anything just freestyle and cruising around.

also curious if either of them needs much tuning out of the box because i really dont want to spend a weekend in betaflight trying to get rid of prop wash if i dont have to. had that whole situation with my old quad and it was not fun.

its hard to describe exactly but it feels kind of floaty? like there's a slight delay or mushiness when i initiate a roll, not oscillations or anything obvious, just less... connected feeling than im used to. props are balanced, i checked. motors spin up fine on the bench. i did load my own rates which maybe made it more noticeable because im used to higher acro rates.

looked at the PIDs and they're actually not that different from what i run on my own builds but something in the filtering setup looks pretty heavy, like they've got RPM filter and a bunch of gyro lowpass stuff stacked that i wouldnt normally run. wondered if that might be causing the lag feeling. anyone dealt with this before or know what to actually look at first

i want a prebuilt 5inch for freestyle. thats it. i have a Radiomaster Boxer so ill be pulling out whatever receiver is in there and putting in an ELRS one. running DJI O3 goggles so ideally something with an O3 air unit mount situation already sorted but ive seen people saying both of these need a TPU printed mount so whatever.

from what i can tell the Evoque is maybe a bit snappier and the Roma is smoother out of the box but i genuinely cannot tell if im reading that right or if its just vibes from peoples writing. anyone actually flown both? or even one of them recently enough that the info isnt stale

out of the box it flew okay but the rates felt super twitchy for my taste and the stock pids were clearly tuned for someone who likes punchy freestyle which i dont really do ? more of a cruisy cinematic type. spent probably two evenings going through betaflight and got it to a place where it feels genuinely good now. the motors run warm but not scary warm after a 4 minute pack, which i was worried about after reading some older threads

main thing id say is dont expect it to fly great stock, the tune needs work. but once you sort that out its a pretty capable machine for the price. curious if anyone else has been running one and what pid changes actually helped

ive already brought P down on roll by like 15% from where it was and it didnt really change much. tried bumping D up a bit too. running stock filters still. someone in a discord told me to check my motor temps after a flight and two of them are noticeably hotter than the other two which seems bad but idk if thats related or a whole separate issue.
