i didnt save my diff before flashing like an idiot so i cant just go back to my old tune. been messing with the rates and i think its a filtering thing maybe? or maybe i just got used to the 4.3 defaults and the 4.4 defaults are just different. im on a 5inch with 2306 motors, F7 FC. tried bumping up D gains a bit which helped a tiny bit but now im second guessing everything

anyone else notice a difference going to 4.4 or did i just break something in the process

im looking at the Speedybee F405 stack which seems pretty popular right now and for motors i was going to go with either the T-Motor F60 Pro IV 1750kv or maybe the Brotherhobby Tornado T2 2306 2450kv. frame is probably gonna be the Apex or maybe a TBS Source One since its cheap enough that i wont cry if i bin it.

my main question is ? is the 45A ESC in that stack gonna be fine with 1750kv on 6S or should i be looking at something beefier? i keep seeing people say you should always have headroom on the ESC but then other people say 45A is plenty for 5inch freestyle. also not sure if i should even bother with 6S at this point or just do 4S and keep it simpler while im still learning the build process

logs show some P term oscillation kicking in around the time it starts feeling bad. temps seem fine. battery is a decent 4S 1500 liger, not ancient. i initially thought maybe vibrations from wind getting into the gyro but ive checked the standoffs and everything is snug. FC is mounted with soft grommets already.

has anyone seen something like this where indoor vs outdoor behavior is just completely different, not a signal issue either because rssi looks normal the whole time

my plan right now is to run 4S because i dont really want to deal with 6S just yet, and i want to keep it manageable weight wise since ill mostly be doing park freestyle and the occasional backyard session. frame is probably going to be a TBS Source One because i already have one sitting in a box from a while back. FC i was thinking the Betaflight F7 based one from Fl1ghtOne but im open to suggestions there too.

main question is really about motors and what props to pair with them. ive seen people say 2306 2450kv on 4S with 5x4.3x3 props but then someone else will say 2207 1750kv is smoother. is there actually a meaningful difference for just messing around at the park or am i overthinking this

weight is kind of a concern because i want to eventually throw an Insta360 SMO 4k on there and i know that adds like 50ish grams which is not nothing on a 3inch. im thinking 4s but honestly i havent locked that in either. budget isnt super tight but i dont want to just throw money at T-Motor if there are equally good options that cost less

anyone actually flown both those motor sizes on something similar? or even just one of them, id take any real world input over spec sheets at this point

i went with a TBS Source One v5 frame, ran Betaflight on a SpeedyBee F405 stack, 2306 2450kv motors with 45A ESCs, and a Caddx Ratel2 for the camera. honestly the camera choice was probably the best decision i made, image is really clean even in low light.

the thing that took me forever and nobody really explains clearly ? soldering the XT60 and getting the ESC power leads clean without bridging anything. i watched like 6 different videos and still had to redo it twice. also the motor order in Betaflight tripped me up, i had two motors spinning the wrong direction and my quad was doing backflips on the bench before i figured out what was happening.

tuning is a whole other beast. i started with the defaults and it felt okay-ish but there was this mid-throttle oscillation that was driving me insane. ended up dropping D term a bit and raising the filtering cutoffs and it mostly went away. still feels a little mushy in fast rolls but im not sure if thats the tune or just me being bad.

anyway if anyone has questions about the specific parts or wants to know what id do differently just ask

its a 5inch on 4s, running 2207 motors, props are HQ 5.1x3x3 which i know some people have opinions about. the filters i honestly havent touched much because i was trying to sort out PID first but maybe thats the problem. RPM filter is on, the motor mags are in betaflight. i dunno. i feel like ive been chasing my tail for like three evenings now and im starting to think theres something physically wrong but the motors sound fine and the frame is tight.

heres what ive been looking at: iFlight Succex-E F7 stack, Emax eco2 2306 motors, some random carbon frame off aliexpress that looked decent, and i was going to run a Caddx Ratel 2 for the camera. for the receiver im thinking a crossfire nano since i already have a TX16S. total VTX situation im still confused about ? was just going to grab a rush tank but idk if thats overkill for just bashing around my local park.

is there anything obviously wrong with this? the F7 stack thing is what im most unsure about, i keep reading that F7 had some issues but i also see people still recommending them so i dont really know what to believe

the part im stuck on is the FC and ESC stack. everyone seems to have a different opinion and ive been going down a rabbit hole for like 3 days. some people swear by the Speedybee F7 stack because of the built in bluetooth for tuning which honestly sounds really convenient, others are saying just get a Foxeer or a Mamba stack. i dont really care about price difference within like $20-30 range, i care more about not having to fight the thing to get Betaflight working properly.

also should i be thinking about the VTX situation before i pick the stack or does it not matter that much in terms of integration. planning to run analog for now, maybe add DJI O3 down the line but thats way later.

running a F405 with the Aikon AK32 35A ESCs and currently on RPM filter with BIlateral telemetry working, checked that. motors are 2207 1950kv on 4S. before anyone asks i already reran the notch filters and nothing changed. not sure if this is a P gain thing or D gain thing or if maybe i just need to increase master multiplier. or maybe its the props and they just dont suit the tune at all

any ideas where to start without doing a full retune from scratch because honestly the previous tune was dialed pretty well for the HQs

right now im looking at either the Xing2 2207 1855kv or maybe going with T-Motor F40 Pro IV in similar kv. budget isnt huge, like 60-70 bucks total for all four motors ideally. mostly flying in open fields and occasionally some light tree lines, not racing just want to punch out and do some rolls and splits. weight isnt a massive concern for me.

also anyone running an analog setup still or is everyone full digital now? i have a Caddx Ratel2 sitting around from an old build and debating just using that to keep costs down rather than buying a DJI O3 setup. does it actually matter that much for freestyle or is that more of a racing/cinematic thing

but ever since i turned it on the quad just feels... off. like there's a sluggishness to it thats hard to describe. stick response feels kinda mushy especially on quick direction changes. before enabling it the thing felt really snappy, had some propwash but it was manageable. now the propwash is better yeah but i feel like im flying through mud.

i didnt touch my PIDs at all when i switched it over which maybe was a dumb move idk. running fairly stock rates with some minor tweaks. also worth mentioning this is a 4in on 4S so its already kinda twitchy by nature which is why i liked it before

anyone run into this? do i just need to retune my Ds or is there something else going on with the filter settings themselves

my issue is the stack. ive been going back and forth for like two weeks between the SpeedyBee F405 v3 and the Aikon AK32 and i genuinely cant decide. the SpeedyBee seems like the obvious choice because of the built in bluetooth config which sounds nice for tuning on the field but ive heard mixed things about the ESC getting hot on sustained throttle. the Aikon stuff ive only seen mentioned a few times here and there.

frame im pretty set on the ImpulseRC Apex, used one before at a buddy's place and loved how it felt. any thoughts on the stack question specifically would be huge right now

its not oscillations, its more like the quad starts the roll fine and then kind of hesitates right at the beginning before it picks up speed. filters are at stock except i dropped the gyro lowpass a little. throttle is around 50% when im doing the rolls if that matters. its an otherwise pretty clean flier just this one thing is annoying me and ive been randomly poking at P gains for two sessions and just making it worse probably

so here's where im at right now. i was going to go with a Mamba F722 stack because i found one for a decent price and ive heard the F7 processors handle betaflight filters better but now someone in another thread was saying F4 is totally fine and i'm overcomplicating it. motors i was thinking BrotherHobby Tornado T2 2306 2450kv for 4S ? again open to being talked out of this. frame is probably a TBS Source One v5 because i like the arm replacability and its cheap enough that i wont cry if i bin it hard.

the part im actually unsure about is the ESC. im torn between just getting the stack deal or buying a standalone 4in1. also havent decided on a VTX yet, was thinking Rush Tank but is that overkill for someone who's still learning 5 inch flying? running DJI goggles v1 so i could also just go HD side but the latency thing makes me nervous for freestyle.

someone at my local field mentioned it might be a motor shaft issue but the shafts all look fine to me visually. could this be a vibration thing causing them to back off over time? the tune isnt perfect admittedly, theres still some propwash on quick direction changes but nothing crazy. im running HQ 4x4x3 props if that matters

is the speedybee stack actually fine for a first build or am i setting myself up for headaches? honestly at this point i just want to commit to something and start ordering parts

ive got dynamic notch set to medium with maybe 2 notches, and the RPM filtering harmonics are at 3. i read somewhere that running too many harmonics can actually add latency and make things worse but then other people say for a 4inch you need more harmonics because the props are noisier. my blackbox logs show pretty clean gyro traces honestly but the motors still get warm after a 4-5 minute pack which makes me think somethings fighting itself in the tune.

anyone been down this rabbit hole and come out the other side with actual settings that worked rather than just guessing
