can't figure out what changed

this has been bugging me for like two weeks. reflashed betaflight to 4.4.3 from 4.3 something and my quad just does not feel right anymore. its like the whole character changed. its a 5inch with F405 and 2207 motors, been flying it for about eight months and had it dialed in pretty well before the update.

the main thing i notice is it feels kinda mushy in fast rolls, like theres a slight delay that wasnt there before. and on quick direction changes it feels a bit wobbly, not like full on oscillations just... imprecise? hard to describe. i did load the stock pids that betaflight suggested for my weight class but maybe thats the issue, my tune before was pretty customized.

also switched to RPM filtering at the same time because i heard 4.4 handles it better but now i cant tell if the issue is the pid change or the RPM filter setup or just something else with the firmware. probably shouldve changed one thing at a time but here we are

finally decided to build a 5inch freestyle quad ? am i overcomplicating my tune

so anyway i finally got my 4inch long range micro flying pretty smooth after weeks of fighting it but i feel like im just throwing filters at the problem without actually understanding whats happening. running a F7 FC with bidirectional dshot enabled and RPM filtering on, but i still have this mid throttle oscillation thats driving me crazy. its not bad enough to cause a crash but you can see it in the HD footage and it feels mushy.

ive got dynamic notch set to medium with maybe 2 notches, and the RPM filtering harmonics are at 3. i read somewhere that running too many harmonics can actually add latency and make things worse but then other people say for a 4inch you need more harmonics because the props are noisier. my blackbox logs show pretty clean gyro traces honestly but the motors still get warm after a 4-5 minute pack which makes me think somethings fighting itself in the tune.

anyone been down this rabbit hole and come out the other side with actual settings that worked rather than just guessing

first real 5inch build ? totally lost on ESC/motor combo

okay so ive been flying whoops and a couple of prebuilts for maybe 8 months now and i finally want to do a proper 5inch freestyle build from scratch. i have a rough budget of like $250-300 for the full build minus the radio and goggles cause i already have those sorted.

my problem is i keep going down these rabbit holes reading about motor KV ratings and ESC amp ratings and i feel like every thread i read gives me different advice. some people say 2306 2450kv is the sweet spot for 5inch freestyle, others are saying 2207 2750kv and now im just more confused than when i started. same deal with ESCs ? is a 4in1 always better than individual ESCs for a first build? i feel like individual ones are harder to replace if one goes but the wiring looks insane to me right now.

gonna be running 4s probably, maybe upgrading to 6s eventually but not right now. mostly want to do park freestyle, not racing. any help is appreciated, even just pointing me to a parts list someone has actually flown and not just copied from a youtube video

my quad just feels dead after retuning and i dont know what i broke

so anyway i finally got brave and started messing with PIDs properly instead of just running defaults and now the thing flies like a wet blanket. before it was a little propwashy on quick direction changes but it felt alive. now its just... smooth in a bad way? like inputs feel delayed and rolls dont snap the way they used to

i was following one of those blackbox tuning guides and i brought D term up to try to kill the wash and i think i also touched the master multiplier at some point. running RPM filter with bidirectional dshot. betaflight 4.4

i saved my old profile but when i loaded it back the problem is still there which is really confusing me. could something have carried over? not sure what else changed honestly
