i didnt argue with him because honestly he seemed pretty confident and i didnt want a whole thing but afterwards i looked it up and i still cant figure out if he was right or wrong. the airstrip barely shows up anywhere. do these little private strips have airspace around them too or was this guy just one of those people who thinks drones are illegal everywhere

but then a friend of mine who also flies said that LAANC approval doesnt cover you if the airspace is also a national park or some kind of state controlled thing. is that true? the area im going to is near a reservoir that i think might have some kind of recreation management situation going on. i honestly cant find a clear answer anywhere and the FAA website just makes my eyes glaze over every time i try to read it

like i know national parks have the ban, that ones well documented. but county parks? i checked the B4UFLY app before i went and nothing showed up as restricted. airspace wise i was well outside any class D or anything, just normal class G uncontrolled. so was he just making stuff up or is there something im missing about local ordinances. genuinely dont know how to find that info

i ended up not flying because i didnt really know what i was supposed to do. like do i submit a LAANC request through aloft or skyvector or whatever and just wait? or is it instant? ive heard some people say its automatic approval under a certain altitude but im not sure if that applies everywhere or just certain airports. also does the 0ft zone mean absolutely no flying or is there some other process for that.

i tried to find out why it was restricted but couldnt find any info. is there some database i can look up that actually explains WHY a specific area is restricted? the DJI app doesnt tell you the reason. i also want to know if theres any way to find out if the restriction is even current or if its like an outdated thing in their system. because i feel like DJI's no fly zone data isnt always totally accurate or up to date and i dont know who actually maintains it

the airport is a pretty small one, mostly small prop planes and occasional charter stuff, not like an international airport. does that matter at all for what kind of authorization i need? just want to fly in my own yard without getting in trouble

im genuinely curious what the actual consequences are if the FAA does catch up with you for something like this. i registered my drone and everything so my info is out there. is this something they actually pursue or is it mostly just if you cause an actual incident. not trying to make this a habit just want to understand how serious this actually is

been flying for about two years so im not totally new to this but airspace stuff still trips me up sometimes. i have my part 107 but even that doesnt really help when the authorization just flat out wont go through. anyone dealt with this before?

now im worried about whether i'm gonna get some kind of fine or report filed or whatever. the ranger took my name and wrote something down. does this actually go anywhere, like does the FAA actually follow up on stuff like this? and what even are those light blue areas on the map cause nobody ever explained those to me when i got started

also side question ? there's a class D ring on the map that extends pretty far out from the airport, is the LAANC authorization enough to fly in that or do i need something else. genuinely cannot figure this out

turns out there was some kind of event in the area, i think a political thing or rally or something, and apparently they put a TFR up around a pretty wide radius. i didnt see anything in my app before i went out. is this something i should be checking separately before every single flight because i feel like the apps should catch this automatically but maybe they dont always update fast enough or something. kind of rattled me honestly because i thought i had a good routine going

i submitted a LAANC request through airmap once and it got approved instantly and i thought great thats all i need but then i read something that said LAANC isnt available at all airports and some places you have to do a manual FAA waiver which takes like 90 days?? is that true. also does the authorization from LAANC cover me legally if something goes wrong or is it just like... permission to fly and the responsibility is still all on me
