The 38-minute flight time with the standard battery might not sound dramatically different from the Mini 2's 31 minutes, but in practice, those extra minutes matter. During real-world testing, I consistently achieved 32-35 minutes of usable flight time while maintaining safe battery reserves. This endurance means you can capture more locations or angles in a single flight without rushing back for battery changes.
The optional Plus battery extends flight time to 51 minutes, making the
Mini 3 the longest-lasting
DJI camera drone in its class. However, it's important to note that using the Battery Plus increases the drone's weight beyond the 250g threshold.

Neither will cope with high winds, but
DJI claim a negligible improvement for the
Mini 3; 10.7m/s wind speed resistance rather than 10.5m/s for the Mini 2. Both of these put it in Beaufort Scale 5 ("Fresh Breeze") which means you'll be able to use them by the coast on a good day.

Mini 3 flies, handles and maneuvers just like the
Mini 3 Pro. The only real difference is its lack of obstacle avoidance sensors. Pilots familiar with the
Mini 3 Pro will find the flight characteristics virtually identical.

Another thing that irritated me was that it took some time to connect to enough satellites (between 10 and 12) to get proper GPS on a cold flight (the first initial launch in a 24-hour period) and again on the following flight. Like most GPS-dependent drones, the

Overall image quality is excellent considering the small size of the camera and sensor, which is incidentally larger than the sensor used in the Mini 2. The improvement in image quality compared to previous Mini models is immediately noticeable, particularly in challenging lighting conditions.
Photo Quality in Various Lighting Conditions
The
Mini 3's larger sensor delivers genuine advantages beyond just specifications. Image quality improvements are noticeable in real-world use, particularly in challenging lighting conditions.
ISO handling is also excellent across the ISO 100-3200 range, with natural color present and little to no color or luminance noise visible. This is thanks to
DJI's dual native ISO technology, first seen in the
Mini 3 Pro, which helps these tiny drones to produce better image quality at higher ISO settings than some more expensive drones with larger sensors. So, combined with the fast f/1.7 aperture, 2.4 ?m size pixels and
DJI's chip-level HDR technology, photos and videos can be captured in low light conditions with fantastic results.

The gimbal system receives significant upgrades to support True Vertical Shooting, allowing the camera to rotate 90 degrees without digital cropping. This feature alone transforms how you think about aerial photography for social media content, enabling native portrait orientation shots that maintain full sensor resolution.

The image quality is excellent, considering the small size of the camera and sensor. Its ability to capture images and videos during low-light performance also impressed me. I captured various low-light moments at night without any background noise.
Color Depth: 8 bit; Dynamic Range: DCG 12.6 f-stops & LCG 10.9 f-stops. While the 8-bit color depth is a limitation for advanced post-processing, the HDR technology helps maximize the usable dynamic range.
Low-Light Performance Analysis
One thing I noticed, though, is that lights and signs are a bit blown out in night video footage. You can't really read the sign on top of the hotel I was filming in my sample clip. Also, when I attempted a reveal shot, the footage was a bit out of focus until I stopped moving the gimbal and let it sit still.
