took the fpv quad on a road trip and learned some things the hard way

ok so me and a friend drove up through the scottish highlands last weekend, had the whole setup in the back, 5inch freestyle quad plus the gopro mount situation and everything. first spot we stopped at was absolutely gorgeous, like perfect cinematic location, and i nearly flew straight into a red kite that came out of nowhere. thing was massive and it was NOT happy. had to abort pretty quick. second spot was fine but the wind up there is just relentless, i was fighting it the whole time and my footage is basically unusable. also got chatted to by a hillwalker who was convinced i was spying on him specifically out of all the empty moorland around us which was fun. anyway scotland is incredible and i want to go back but maybe research the wind patterns better and uh, watch for birds of prey

Red kites are protected birds so depending on how close you actually got that could have been a real problem if anyone had filmed it or reported it. Not trying to be a downer just worth knowing for next time, the CAA takes disturbance of Schedule 1 species seriously. The highlands are amazing for flying though, Glencoe especially if you havent done it yet, just check the notams and pick a calm morning.
