ok so this was a few weeks ago and im still kind of processing it. went to iceland specifically to get some footage around the highlands and the waterfalls. conditions looked fine when i took off near skogafoss, light wind, good visibility. then out of nowhere this massive gust just came through the valley and my air 3 got pushed way off course. i was watching the map like please please please and it just barely made it back before the battery hit critical.

landed with 4% battery. four percent. i was shaking. the footage was incredible though so i mean... worth it? probably not but also kind of yes

anyway if anyone is planning iceland just know the wind forecasts there are basically useless, it can change so fast especially near water. learned that the hard way

oof that sounds stressful. iceland is absolutely on my list but ive heard the weather is just unpredictable no matter what the apps say. what were you using for wind forecasts, windy or something else? curious if any of them are better than others for that region

4% lmao i've had similar moments and it doesnt get less terrifying. the highlands especially funnel wind in ways that make no sense, valleys can be totally calm and then you climb 50 meters and its a different world. always fly with return to home set conservatively in iceland, i set mine to trigger at like 30% when i was there just to be safe. also the geothermal areas have weird updrafts too, had my drone acting strange near some hot spring vents near myvatn
