so ive been going back and forth on this for like two weeks now and honestly the more i read the more confused i get. i already fly a regular mini 3 pro for like real estate and travel stuff but ive been wanting to get into something faster and more immersive for a while. my buddy has the original DJI FPV and let me fly it a couple times and i was hooked instantly, that thing hauls.

but now everyones talking about the avata 2 and i dont fully understand where the line is between these two products. like theyre both DJI, both work with the goggles, but one feels like its aimed at people who want to go fast and one feels more like a cinematic thing? or am i reading that wrong. i guess my main question is if someone just wants that locked-in FPV feel without necessarily doing acro or race stuff, is the avata 2 the move or does the FPV drone still make more sense in

honestly they really arent the same product category even though DJI markets them kind of adjacent to each other. the FPV drone is bigger, faster, way more manual feel especially if you dig into the manual mode, you can actually fly it like a proper freestyle quad once you get comfortable. avata 2 is more like a cinewhoop philosophy - it has the prop guards, its meant to fly closer to subjects, indoors, narrow gaps, that kinda stuff. the footage from the avata 2 in good light is genuinely really nice though.

if you want the rush of speed and dont care about flying near people or tight spaces, FPV drone. if you want something that feels safer to fly around stuff and gives you smooth cinematic shots with less risk of destroying it, avata 2. thats kind of the short version anyway.

i went through this exact same thing lol. ended up getting the avata 2 about three months ago and zero regrets for what i use it for. i fly it in parks, around trees, did some indoor warehouse stuff for a short film project and it handled great. the motion controller makes it super approachable too if you dont wanna mess with sticks right away. that said i tried my friends FPV drone last month and yeah if you want FAST that thing is on another level, the avata 2 just doesnt compete there. depends what you actually want to do with it i guess
