so anyway i finally went to one of these organized group flight things my buddy kept bugging me about. its run by a local club, they meet at this old airfield on the edge of town every second saturday. i was kind of nervous because im still pretty new and figured everyone would be flying like miniquads or something fancy and id be the guy with his mavic looking out of place.

but it was actually super chill, way more variety than i thought. there was this one older dude with a fixed wing plane that was massive, like wingspan on that thing was insane. some fpv guys doing laps in a corner they had roped off. nobody was weird about beginners, a few people came over and chatted while i was setting up. the only thing i didnt love was it was pretty windy and i ended up cutting my flight short because i was nervous about my battery drain fighting the gusts the whole time. but yeah ill definitely go back

that fixed wing guy is probably Bill, he shows up to basically every fly-in in the tri-county area with that thing. its a turbine powered jet trainer i think, sounds absolutely insane when its at full throttle. glad you had a good time, the community aspect is honestly the best part of the hobby for me

this makes me want to look for something similar near me. ive been flying solo for like two years and never really connected with anyone locally. do you just search facebook groups or is there like a better way to find clubs?
