finally got my Mavic 3 after years on the Mini 2 - few things nobody told me

so i made the jump last month and honestly the learning curve was a bit steeper than i expected coming from the Mini 2. not saying its hard to fly or anything but there's just... more to think about. the Hasselblad color profile stuff threw me off at first because i was shooting in D-Log M and wondering why everything looked washed out on my laptop until i realized i hadnt set up a LUT in premiere. felt like an idiot but whatever.

the thing that actually surprised me most is how much heavier it feels in the hand. i know 895g isnt crazy heavy but after two years with the Mini 2 it felt like holding a brick the first few times. you get used to it fast.

one thing id genuinely recommend that nobody mentioned to me - get the ND filter set early, not later. i was shooting golden hour footage on my third flight with no ND and the rolling shutter on fast pans was just bad. grabbed the DJI 4/8/16/64 set and its made a huge difference for video. also the 64 is more useful than you'd think for midday beach stuff.

anyway if anyone else made a similar jump recently and has questions im happy to share what ive figured out so far

the LUT thing gets everyone lol. i remember my first D-Log M clips and thinking something was wrong with the camera. took me way too long to sort that out. have you tried the Dehaze slider in Lightroom on the flat footage before applying a LUT? sometimes i do a little of that first and the colors just pop way nicer, especially skies.

also for ND filters - totally agree but id also say dont sleep on the circular polarizer for water shots. if you're anywhere near the coast or lakes its basically mandatory. cuts the glare in a way that ND just doesnt do.
