anyone else feel like the fpv drone reviews on youtube are kind of useless for actually buying something

so this has been bugging me for a while and i finally want to just say it somewhere. i watch a lot of the big drone review channels and i genuinely like some of them but when it comes to actually deciding what to buy i find myself more confused after watching than before. everyone has their favorite brand and it kind of bleeds into everything they say. like ive watched three different reviews of the same 5 inch freestyle quad and come away with three completely different impressions of how it flies.

the other thing is they almost never talk about long term reliability or what happens when something breaks. like yeah it rips great on day one but what about after youve crashed it twelve times and are trying to source replacement arms. that stuff matters way more to me at this point than whether the vtx puts out 400mw or 600mw.

maybe im just getting pickier as i fly more. does anyone actually have review sources or community spots they trust more than the usual youtube stuff for making buying decisions? been thinking about picking up a new 3.5 inch micro build and feeling a bit lost on which frame to go with

yeah the youtube thing is real, a lot of those guys get sent product for free and even if theyre not consciously biased it just changes the dynamic. i mostly trust build threads on here and on rcgroups more than any video review, people who actually bought the thing with their own money and are posting about it six months later tend to be a lot more honest about the weak points. for micro frames specifically the rcinpower stuff has been pretty well documented in the community, lots of actual crash data out there if you dig around

this is so true and i think it gets worse the more niche you go. for like dji consumer stuff theres enough volume that you can find honest opinions pretty easily but for specific fpv components forget it, youre basically reading sponsored content half the time without knowing it. what 3.5 inch are you looking at btw? im curious because ive been eyeing that category too for more urban flying where i cant bring out anything bigger. the iflight defender has been on my radar but parts availability outside the us seems like a pain
