so i picked up the avata 2 back in the spring after selling my old fpv setup because i was honestly tired of soldering and rebuilding after every crash. wanted something i could just fly without spending half my weekend in the workshop. figured id share some thoughts now that ive had it a while and the honeymoon phase is definitely over.
the good stuff first - the goggles 3 are genuinely excellent, way better latency than i expected and the image coming through is clean enough that i dont miss my old analog setup as much as i thought i would. manual mode is fun once you get used to it and the fact that i can let my girlfriend try it on normal mode without me having a panic attack is honestly a big selling point.
the frustrating parts though. battery life is just okay, i get maybe 20-22 minutes in normal mode and significantly less if im actually flying it hard. and dji's ecosystem lock-in is real - the goggles only work with dji stuff obviously which i knew going in but still stings a little. also had one weird flyaway moment in strong wind that scared me, recovered fine but it reminded me this thing has limits.
would i buy it again? probably yeah. but if youre a serious fpv pilot who wants to push limits you might find it a bit limiting after a while. for someone transitioning from cinematic stuff or wanting a taste of fpv without the headache it's honestly great
