made pretty much this exact switch about 18 months ago. went from X7 to a BMPCC 4K on a Freefly Alta 6 with a M?VI Pro underneath. honestly the tuning time is real - probably took me 4-5 serious sessi

the FX3 is a really interesting option for this because the body is so light relative to what it puts out - i think its like 715g body only which is manageable on a lot of mid class gimbals without to
background: been using the X7 on an Inspire 2 for about two years, mostly commercial stuff but lately ive been doing more short film and narrative projects where image quality and dynamic range really matter. the X7 is great dont get me wrong but im starting to feel a bit boxed in by the DJI ecosystem and the lens selection, especially at the wider end.
ive been looking at going custom - something like a Ronin 2 or a heavy lift platform with a proper mirrorless body. the obvious candidate is the Sony FX3 or maybe even the BMPCC 6K if weight isnt a total dealbreaker. the stabilization on a custom gimbal setup is never quite as clean as an integrated system like the X7 in my experience, there's always more tuning involved. but the image coming out of a real cinema camera just has a different quality to it that clients are starting to notice and ask about.
has anyone made this jump and actually found it worth the headache of managing a custom payload? curious what gimbals people are pairing with heavier bodies these days too
