Do I really need to register my 280g DJI Mini if I just fly for fun?

I just got a DJI Mini 4 Pro that weighs 280g and I want to fly it for hobby only. I keep reading conflicting information about registration requirements. Some say under 250g is exempt, but mine is heavier. Do I need to register with the FAA and take that TRUST test even for recreational flying? What happens if I get caught without registration?
