so at our local AMA club meeting last weekend one of the guys who does a lot of flying at sanctioned events was saying he heard from someone at a regional fly-in that FAA enforcement on remote ID is starting to ramp up, like actually showing up at sites and checking. i have no idea how accurate this is because its pretty much second hand information at this point but it got me thinking about whether i should finally deal with my older quads that arent compliant

i know the broadcast modules exist and ive been putting off buying one because the whole thing felt kind of theoretical enforcement-wise for a long time. but if theyre actually starting to care about it maybe its time. does anyone have recent firsthand experience with this or is it still pretty much honor system territory depending on where you are

ive been following this pretty closely and from what i can tell enforcement is still really inconsistent across the country. there have been a few documented cases of people getting cited but its mostly been at or near airports and restricted airspace situations where remote ID was kind of the least of their problems anyway. random park flying enforcement is basically nonexistent from what ive seen reported

that said i wouldnt rely on that forever, the infrastructure for checking this stuff is genuinely being built out and the FAA has made pretty clear they consider remote ID non-negotiable going forward. the broadcast modules are like 50 bucks at this point, just grab one and stop worrying about it is my take. peace of mind is worth more than the hassle of wondering every time you fly

honestly the whole remote ID thing still feels half baked to me. the range on some of these broadcast modules is kind of laughable if anyones being honest, and the enforcement mechanism depends on someone nearby actually having equipment to detect it. its not like theres a network of receivers out there yet catching everything. i comply because i figure i should but i remain skeptical about how much this actually does what the FAA says it does in terms of accountability
