ok so i spent like two weeks trying to get a group flight thing together for our area, made a facebook event, posted in like 3 different groups, got 18 people saying they were coming. showed up saturday morning and it was me and two other guys. one of them i didnt even know, he just happened to be flying at the same field.

not really sure what i did wrong honestly. the weather was fine, the field is decent, i gave enough notice. maybe facebook events are just useless now? or people just flake on drone stuff more than other hobbies idk. thinking about trying again but maybe doing a smaller thing, like just directly messaging 4 or 5 people instead of a big open invite. anyone had luck actually getting a group together that shows up

yeah facebook events are basically dead for this kind of thing imo. the people who actually show up to fly-ins are usually the ones in a dedicated group chat or discord, not random facebook followers. 18 said going and 3 showed up is honestly about normal for facebook lmao. try discord or even just a group text if you know people locally

this happened to me too when i first tried it. what ended up working was keeping it really informal, like just texting a few guys directly and saying hey im going to be at the field sunday morning if anyone wants to come. no big event page, no rsvp, just loose plans. somehow that gets more people out than anything official. also morning flights seem to have better turnout than afternoon for whatever reason, people have stuff come up by afternoon i guess
