ok so background, i've been flying freestyle on a 5inch for about eight months and up until yesterday my repertoire was basically just rolls, split throttle dives, and the occasional lazy power loop if i was feeling brave. i fly a lot at this old soccer field near my house, pretty open, good for practicing.
anyway i finally decided to try a proper split-s. watched probably six different youtube videos on it, felt like i understood the mechanics - roll inverted, pull back on pitch, let it arc through. simple enough right. yeah no. first attempt i rolled inverted fine and then completely panicked on the timing and pulled way too late and basically just flew sideways into the ground at an angle. nothing broke miraculously, the arms took it but i bent one prop.
second attempt i got it but it was so sloppy it barely counted. third was actually decent. my question is - is this one of those maneuvers where the muscle memory just has to build up through reps or is there something specific im miscueing on. feels like my brain goes blank the moment im inverted and i lose track of which way pitch is going to pull me
