VTX Power vs Range Reality Check - 800mW not Doubling my 200mW Distance

Running some range tests with my new Rush Tank Ultimate and I'm confused by the results. Upgraded from 200mW to 800mW (6dB increase) expecting to double my range, but I'm only seeing about 50% improvement from 2.1km to 3.2km on Raceband 7 with matching TrueRC AXII antennas.

Using the same flight path, same environmental conditions, Skyzone 04X goggles. Is this normal or am I missing something? VTX is properly cooled with heatsink and getting solid 12V from a dedicated BEC.

  • 200mW: Solid video to 2.1km, breakup at 2.3km
  • 800mW: Solid video to 3.2km, breakup at 3.5km
