okay so i've been going back and forth on this for weeks now. i want to get into fpv but i dont want to build a quad from scratch, i just want something that works out of the box that i can actually fly without destroying on my first session. my budget can stretch to either one if i shop smart but not both obviously.

from what i can tell the Avata is more locked down, lighter, better for indoor/tight spaces, has the obstacle sensing stuff. the FPV drone is faster and more of a proper cinematic fpv feel but way less forgiving. i mostly want to fly outdoors, some light freestyle maybe, get decent footage of myself hiking or biking with friends. not trying to race or anything crazy.

the thing nobody seems to answer directly is how much harder the FPV drone is to fly day to day. like is the Avata actually good enough for real fpv footage or does it feel like a dumbed down toy. genuinely cant tell from youtube reviews because they all have an agenda

for your usecase honestly the Avata is probably the better call. i know that's not the exciting answer but hear me out - the FPV drone in manual mode is genuinely unforgiving and even in normal/sport mode it doesn't have the close-range obstacle avoidance the Avata does. for filming biking or hiking trails where you're flying relatively close to people and trees the Avata's propguards and sensing actually matter. the footage quality is solid too, the stabilization is better than people give it credit for.

the FPV drone makes sense if speed and that raw cinematic feel is the whole point. for documentary-style follow shots with your mates i'd do Avata.

i have the FPV drone and my buddy has the Avata and we fly together sometimes. the Avata footage actually looks really good in tight spaces and he can thread gaps i wouldn't even attempt. but when we're out in open areas my footage has way more energy to it just because of how much faster and more aggressively i can fly. different tools really. if you dont already have experience with manual mode fpv quads at all i'd go Avata first, get your air sense dialed in, then maybe upgrade later. no shame in it
