ESC vs Motor Failure - Help Diagnosing Hard Crash Damage

  • Members

Had a hard crash yesterday - tree branch caught my racing quad at about 30mph. Three motors spin fine, but motor #4 is completely dead. I've already swapped the motor to a different ESC channel and it still doesn't work, so I know it's the motor itself.

Planning to desolder the three motor wires from the ESC and remove the four mounting screws, but wondering if anyone has experience with similar crash damage. The motor bell looks intact, no visible cracks, but when I spin it by hand I feel some roughness and hear grinding sounds. Could this be just damaged bearings or are the windings likely toast too?

Running 2306 2400KV motors on 6S - should I attempt a bearing replacement or just bite the bullet on a new motor?
