ok so i bought a DJI Mini 3 like two weeks ago and i honestly thought it would be more intuitive than it is. ive been flying it in my backyard mostly and its fine but i keep getting these warnings about the altitude limit and i dont really understand the geofencing stuff. also every time i try to do a manual flight it just feels really twitchy? like i move the stick a tiny bit and it overcorrects or something. not sure if thats a me problem or a settings thing

also someone told me i need to register it with the FAA but then someone else said mini drones dont need that? im so confused. just want to fly the thing without breaking a law i didnt know existed

the twitchy feeling is almost definitely your expo settings or sensitivity. DJI calls it something slightly different in the app but basically you want to lower the stick sensitivity in the settings — theres a section called control or something in the fly app. dropping that down makes it feel way more manageable when youre learning. i flew mine at like 30% sensitivity for the first month and honestly it helped a ton with muscle memory before bumping it back up

on the FAA thing — the Mini 3 is under 250g so you technically dont need to register it for recreational flying, BUT if youre flying for any commercial purpose at all you do. and even without registration you still have to follow the airspace rules, stay under 400ft, dont fly near airports etc. the B4UFLY app is actually pretty decent for checking if youre good to fly somewhere

same boat as you like 3 months ago lol. the twitchy thing drove me crazy too. i ended up just spending like an hour in a big empty field with no wind just doing tiny movements and hovering in one spot. sounds boring but it really helped me get a feel for how sensitive it is. also watched a bunch of random youtube stuff about reading wind because that messes with it more than i expected
