made exactly this transition about 18 months ago and honestly it was one of the better decisions ive made. the pay difference is real -- i was doing real estate at similar rates to what you described

not in survey work myself but i went to a local AUVSI chapter meetup a few months back and talked to a few people who do this full time. the general vibe i got was that yes it pays better but you real
been thinking about this a lot lately. i do mostly photography and video right now, weddings some real estate, the usual stuff. its fine but the market around here feels pretty crowded and the rates keep getting pushed down by people who will shoot a whole listing for like 75 bucks which is just not worth my time.
someone mentioned that mapping and survey work pays significantly better and has less competition because of the learning curve involved. that sounds appealing but i honestly dont know where to start or if its even realistic without some kind of formal background in GIS or surveying. i looked into the Pix4D certification stuff briefly but it seemed like a rabbit hole.
anyone here made the jump from creative work into more technical drone applications? was it hard to break into and did you need to go back to school or get specific certs beyond 107? genuinely curious what the actual path looks like because most of what i find online is either vague or trying to sell me a course.
