group flights are kind of a mess tbh

so our local club did a group flight thing last weekend and i dont know, maybe i had the wrong expectations but it was kind of chaotic. like 15 people all flying at once in a field that honestly wasnt big enough for that many aircraft and nobody was really communicating about where they were headed. almost had two mid airs that i saw. i still had fun but im wondering if other peoples clubs actually have some kind of system for this or if its always just vibes and hope nobody crashes into each other

yeah 15 people with no flight director is a recipe for disaster. the club i fly with has a designated caller, basically one person who coordinates who launches and when and everyone checks in verbally before they go up. sounds annoying but once you do it a couple times it becomes second nature and honestly makes the whole thing way more relaxed because you're not constantly scanning for other peoples aircraft

our group is small enough (like 5-6 regulars) that we just kind of naturally spread out and it works fine but i can imagine 15 being a nightmare especially if people are flying different styles. fpv guys and line of sight flyers in the same space is always a little sketchy in my experience
