flying in iceland next month, any tips?

  • Members

so ive been planning this iceland trip for like 6 months and just realized i never looked into the drone rules there. im bringing my mini 3 pro and was hoping to get some shots around the south coast, maybe near jokulsarlon if the weather cooperates. anyone done this? i know there are national park restrictions but beyond that i dont really know whats off limits. also wondering if the wind is just gonna wreck me the whole time because everything i read says it gets intense out there.

went last september, the wind is no joke dude. i had days where i just didnt bother taking it out because it was gusting like 40+ mph and there was zero point. the south coast is beautiful when you can fly but be ready to just eat some days as a loss. for rules, you need to register with the icelandic transport authority before you go, its not super complicated but dont wait til youre at the airport. highland areas and most of the national parks are restricted, i stuck to coastal stuff mostly and didnt have issues.

oh cool i did iceland last year. yeah the wind was wild but i still got some crazy footage near vik. just check the Samgongustofa website thats the transport authority thing. i downloaded their map app and it helped a lot for knowing where i could and couldnt be. jokulsarlon should be fine i think as long as youre not right in the park boundary area, but double check that. also bring extra nd filters the light there does weird things.
