so this happened last weekend and im still thinking about it. was out at a state park doing some shots over a lake, thought i did my research, checked the airspace and it was green on the b4ufly app. ranger comes up and starts asking me all kinds of questions, do i have a license, is this a commercial flight, where did i launch from. i have my part 107 so i wasnt worried about that side of it but apparently the park itself has its own rules banning drones and i just completely missed that. he let me off with a warning but honestly it was embarrassing because i thought i was being responsible. lesson learned i guess, FAA airspace is not the same as land use rules and state parks usually have their own thing going on independently.

yeah this trips people up constantly. the airspace being clear just means the FAA is cool with you being in that altitude zone, it says nothing about whether you have permission from whoever owns or manages the land. state parks, national parks, county parks, even some beaches all have their own policies and they dont show up on any of the apps. i always email the park office before going anywhere new now, takes 5 minutes and saves you the awkward ranger conversation.
