ok so i finally went to one of the local club meetups after lurking on their website for like six months. i dont know what i expected but there were way more people than i thought, maybe 30 or 40 guys and a few women too which was cool. everyone seemed to know each other already and i kind of just stood there with my phantom for a bit not sure where to go or who to talk to.

eventually one of the older dudes came over and was super helpful, walked me through where the flight line was and explained the rotation system they use so nobody gets in each others airspace. once i actually got in the air it was fine but man the social part of it was a lot. do these things get easier the more you go or is it always a bit like that

I had the exact same experience at my first club meetup, just stood there like an idiot for 20 minutes. The flight line thing threw me off too because i was used to just going to a field and doing whatever. stick with it though the connections you make are worth it, ive gotten so many tips just from chatting with people at these things that i never wouldve found online
