our local group flight turned into kind of a disaster but also hilarious

ok so we finally got our little local group together, maybe 8 guys, had a spot picked out, got there early to set up. first flight goes great, everyones having fun. then someone decides to do a proximity pass near the treeline and clipped a branch, quad goes into a bush, took like 20 minutes to find it. then about an hour in we realize nobody checked the airspace and we were like 400 meters from a hospital helipad. so we all had to pack up and move to the soccer fields down the road

second location was actually way better tbh. but yeah, lesson learned, designate someone to actually do the airspace check before everyone drives out

haha sounds about right honestly. every group fly i've been to has some version of this. one time we drove 45 minutes to a spot and someone had already reported it to the local parks department so there was a ranger waiting for us. we just turned around and went to a McDonalds parking lot and flew minis for two hours

the airspace thing is so easy to miss when youre focused on getting there and setting up. we use one of those shared reminders in a group chat now, someone has to screenshot the aloft check before anyone leaves their house. bit overkill maybe but it works
