flying in iceland next month — anyone done this?

  • Members

so im heading to iceland for 3 weeks and obviously bringing the mini 3 pro. ive been reading about the rules there and its honestly confusing me. like from what i can tell most of the highlands are open airspace but then theres all these national park restrictions and i cant figure out which areas actually need permits vs which ones you can just fly in.

also heard the wind there is absolutely brutal, like even on calm days it can just gust out of nowhere. anyone dealt with that? im a bit worried about losing the drone to the atlantic ocean lol

did iceland last summer with my air 2s. the wind thing is real, i lost maybe 4 or 5 shots because of sudden gusts near the coast. vatnajokull area was surprisingly fine though, at least when we were there. just keep an eye on windy.com like obsessively, it saved me multiple times.

for the permits, i just emailed the environment agency of iceland before i went and they responded pretty fast. most of the touristy waterfall spots are restricted but the highlands are generally fine as long as youre not in a designated protected zone. just download the map from their site and cross reference before you fly anywhere.

cant help with the rules stuff but jealous as hell. iceland is on my list. just dont fly near puffin colonies if you go near the coast, apparently they nest on cliffsides and drones stress them out bad. seen a few posts about people getting called out for it
