yeah the LiDAR stuff is kind of a different world, those sensors cost more than most peoples cars so companies are usually providing the equipment themselves and just want a pilot who wont crash it. i
i keep seeing job postings for drone pilots doing powerline inspections, pipeline surveys, that kind of thing and the pay looks significantly better than the real estate and wedding stuff i do now. but every posting seems to want either a ton of specific certifications i dont have or theyre looking for someone who already has experience doing exactly that thing, which is kind of a catch 22
one posting i saw wanted thermography certification, another wanted experience with LiDAR payloads, and like i have a solid background flying and my 107 but none of that specialized equipment stuff. is there a reasonable path into this kind of work or is it one of those industries where you basically have to know someone to get your foot in the door
also not sure if it matters but im in the midwest, not sure how much utility inspection work is out here vs like the coasts
