flying in Iceland next month, any tips?

so ive been planning this trip to Iceland for like 8 months and obviously the drone is coming with me. mini 3 pro if that matters. ive done some reading on the rules there but its kind of confusing — from what i understand most of the popular spots like near geysers and stuff are protected and you need permits but then some people say its fine and others say rangers will confiscate your stuff on the spot

also just practically speaking — cold weather flying, the wind there looks absolutely brutal in some of the footage ive seen. anyone actually flown there and knows whats real vs what people just say online

flew there two summers ago, the permit situation is real but its not as scary as it sounds. basically national parks and nature reserves you need to check with the Environment Agency of Iceland, most of the time for recreational stuff they just say no or dont respond lol. but outside those areas its pretty open. i flew near Vik beach with no issues, nobody said anything

wind is not a joke though. i lost like 4 minutes of battery just fighting gusts near Skogafoss, ended up landing early because i didnt trust it. check windy.com obsessively, seriously. mornings were usually the calmest for me

not iceland specifically but cold weather tip — keep a spare battery in your inner jacket pocket so its warm when you swap. learned that the hard way in Norway, battery went from 100 to landing warning in like 6 minutes in the cold
