flying in iceland next month, anything i should know?

  • Members

so ive been planning this trip to iceland for like 6 months and obviously bringing the mini 4 pro. ive done some reading on the rules there but its kind of confusing with the open category stuff and whether i need to register or not. anyone actually flown there recently? especially around vatnajokull or the south coast areas. also not sure if the wind is just gonna make the whole thing pointless lol

went last september and honestly the wind is no joke. there were days i didnt even bother taking it out because it was just gusting constantly. the south coast near jokulsarlon was incredible when it was calm though, got some shots i still cant believe. registration wise i think as a tourist you technically need to register with the icelandic transport authority but i just made sure i was in the open A1/A3 category and stayed away from people and nobody said anything. not saying thats the right approach just what i did

the wind thing is real, check windy.com obsessively. also some of the most popular spots like skogafoss and seljalandsfoss have gotten pretty strict about drones because of tourist volume. i got waved off by a ranger at one of them. still worth bringing 100% just be flexible about where you actually fly
