background: ive been flying for about 4 years, got my 107, have a Mavic 3 and recently picked up a used M300 which i got a good deal on mostly because i wanted to learn a more capable platform. i work in IT right now and honestly kind of hate it and have been looking at ways to transition into something drone related full time or at least more seriously than weekend real estate gigs.
utility inspection keeps coming up when i research drone careers — power lines, cell towers, that kind of thing. seems like it pays better than the media/photo stuff and is more stable work but i genuinely dont know how you break into it. do companies hire individual pilots or do they only want to work with established drone service companies? do i need additional certifications beyond 107? ive seen stuff about thermographic imaging certs and i dont know if thats something i should be investing in or if im getting ahead of myself. just trying to figure out if this is a realistic path or if im dreaming
