DJI FPV Controller 2 Compatibility Crisis with Avata 2 - Workaround Solutions?

  • Members

Dropped CAD $320 on FPV Controller 2 for practice before getting into serious FPV, then bought Avata 2 expecting seamless compatibility. Complete incompatibility - Controller 2 will not link with Avata 2 despite multiple firmware updates and pairing attempts.

"I can't get it work with the Avata 2. Spent almost CAD320 to buy the controller 2 and now I need to spend almost same amount of money to get a new controller."

DJI support confirms hardware limitation - not fixable via firmware. Official compatibility: RC Motion 3/FPV RC 3 only work with Goggles 3, while RC Motion 2/FPV RC 2 only support Goggles 2 and Integra.

Any confirmed workarounds or third-party solutions? This ecosystem fragmentation is costly for upgrading users.

Unfortunately no workarounds exist - the O4 transmission protocol in Avata 2 is fundamentally different from O3. There were "rumors of an upcoming DJI update to add backwards compatibility" but nothing materialized. Your only option is selling the Controller 2 and buying RC 3.

This is exactly why I research compatibility matrices before any DJI purchase. "Avata 2 only works with RC Motion 3?no exceptions. Using an RC 2 or RC-N2 controller will leave you staring at a blank screen." Check resale value on your Controller 2 - might offset some upgrade cost.

Had the same issue! Solution: keep the Controller 2 for original DJI FPV drone (great backup aircraft) and get Controller 3 for Avata 2. The ecosystem is fragmented but both controllers serve their specific aircraft well. Consider it diversifying your FPV setup rather than redundancy.
