flying in iceland next month, any tips?

  • Members

so ive been planning this trip to iceland for like 6 months and obviously bringing the mini 3 pro. ive done some reading on their rules but its honestly a bit confusing. i know you need to register but i cant figure out if thats something you do ahead of time online or like at the airport or what. anyone actually flown there recently?

also curious about the wind because ive heard it can get absolutely brutal and i dont want to lose my drone on day 2 of a 10 day trip. any spots worth hitting or avoiding around the south coast specifically

went last september, the registration is all online before you go, just google icetra drone registration and it takes maybe 20 minutes. not super complicated but do it at least a week before just in case. the wind though... yeah that part is real. i lost maybe 3 or 4 potential shots around vik because gusts just came out of nowhere. i basically stopped trusting any forecast that wasnt like within the hour. windy.app became my best friend out there

south coast is incredible btw. just be patient with the weather windows

cant help with the rules stuff but jokulsarlon glacier lagoon is insane from the air if youre heading that far east. just watch for other tourists, it gets crowded and people were kind of giving me looks when i was flying there lol
