group flights are kinda awkward when half the people dont know the rules

so our local group does these informal meetups every few weeks at a field outside town and its been great mostly but lately weve been getting a lot of new people showing up which is fine i guess except some of them clearly have no idea about basic stuff like not flying over people or checking the airspace before they just rip up to 400 feet. had a moment last time where this guy just launched and flew directly over where a bunch of us were standing watching another guy do a run and nobody said anything which kind of surprised me. not trying to gatekeep or whatever but like how do you even bring that up without being the fun police

yeah this is a real problem honestly. the way our club handles it is we just have a quick 5 minute safety briefing at the start before anyone flies, nothing formal just someone goes over the basic expectations. that way its not directed at any one person and new people hear it without feeling called out. still doesnt stop everyone but it cuts down on the sketchy moments a lot

i mean someone has to say something or it just keeps happening. i get not wanting to be that guy but flying over a group is genuinely dangerous not just annoying. i'd rather have a slightly awkward 30 second conversation than watch someone catch a 7 inch to the face. just say hey heads up we try not to fly over people, most normal folks will just go oh sorry and adjust, if they get defensive about it thats a them problem
