switching from phantom to evo II pro ? what am i missing

  • Members

okay so ive been flying phantoms since like 2016 and i finally pulled the trigger on an EVO II Pro 6K last month. overall im pretty happy with it but there are definitely some things that are throwing me off coming from the phantom ecosystem.

the rugged app is... fine i guess? it works but it doesnt feel as polished as the DJI GO 4 app did. also the fact that the camera module is swappable is cool in theory but i havent actually found a reason to do it yet. anyone using the thermal module for anything interesting?

biggest thing bugging me right now is the obstacle avoidance feels a little more twitchy than what i was used to. like it stops way earlier than i expect it to. is that normal or is there a setting im not finding? not looking to disable it entirely, just want it to behave a bit more like what i had before.

also ? does anyone have a recommendation for a good carrying case? the one that came with it is fine but its not something id want to check on a plane.

yeah the obstacle avoidance sensitivity is adjustable in the Autel Sky app settings, its buried in there but you can dial back how early it triggers. took me forever to find it too. the default is pretty conservative which i guess makes sense for new users but if youre coming from another platform it feels like the drone is second-guessing you constantly.

for the case ? i ended up going with a Pelican 1510 with custom foam cut to fit. took an afternoon to do the foam properly but its been on like a dozen flights now including two checked bags and no issues. theres also a guy on etsy who sells pre-cut foam inserts for the EVO II specifically, cant remember the exact shop name but search for it, pretty worth it.

i got the thermal module and honestly use it mostly for checking my roof after storms lol. not exactly the professional use case they advertise but its been super useful. the swappable thing is genuinely handy if you have a specific reason for it, otherwise yeah you probably wont touch it much.
