lithchi vs dronelink for automated missions ? which one are you actually using

  • Members

so ive been going back and forth on this for a few weeks now. currently using litchi for most of my waypoint stuff on my mini 3 pro but a buddy keeps telling me to switch to dronelink and honestly i dont fully understand what the difference is in terms of actual flight behavior. like i get that dronelink has more mission types and whatever but does it actually fly smoother or is that just marketing nonsense

main thing im doing is mapping agricultural fields and some basic corridor flights along roads. litchi works fine but ive had a couple weird gimbal lock situations mid mission that i cant explain. wondering if thats a litchi thing or just me being an idiot with the settings

anyone made the switch and actually noticed a real difference in the field

made the switch about 8 months ago and havent looked back honestly. the mission structure in dronelink is way more flexible once you wrap your head around it ? took me like a weekend of watching their docs to get comfortable but now i can do stuff i couldnt even attempt in litchi. for corridor mapping specifically the linear mission type is really solid, you can dial in overlap percentages directly instead of calculating it yourself which saves a ton of time

the gimbal lock thing you're describing sounds like it might be a waypoint heading mode issue. litchi lets you set heading independently per waypoint which sounds great but i think a lot of people accidentally set conflicting values and the aircraft kinda fights itself through the turn. dronelink handles that more gracefully in my experience but i wont pretend i fully understand what its doing under the hood either

i use both depending on what im doing tbh. litchi for simple point to point stuff because its just faster to set up, dronelink when i need actual precision. the free tier of dronelink is pretty limited though so keep that in mind before you commit
