yeah so ive been going back and forth on this for a while and i cant find a definitive answer. i fly mostly in a pretty built up city environment, lots of 2.4 and 5.8 congestion obviously, buildings, the whole deal. currently on an older mavic 2 pro with ocusync 2 and honestly the signal holds up pretty well most of the time but ive had some sketchy moments in certain areas where i think im just getting hammered by wifi interference from apartment blocks.

my buddy has a mavic 3 with O3 and swears its way better in the same spots but i cant tell if hes just drinking the kool aid or if O3 genuinely handles urban RF environments better. the frequency hopping on O3 is supposedly more aggressive but ive also read that it doesnt actually help much if the whole 2.4ghz band is just saturated.

has anyone done any kind of real world back to back on this, not just range tests in a field but actual urban flying with wifi everywhere. curious what people actually experienced not just what the spec sheet says

honestly in my experience O3 is meaningfully better in dense areas, not because of some magic but the channel scanning and switching is just faster and smarter than OcuSync 2. flew both in downtown for a job last spring and the mavic 3 was noticeably more stable in the spots where my old mavic 2 would get twitchy. that said i dont think either of them are great when youre like, flying between two apartment buildings on the same floor as everyones routers. at that point youre kind of asking for trouble regardless of what transmission system youre on.

the saturation point is real and people dont talk about it enough. frequency hopping helps when theres noise on some channels but when the whole band is basically unusable it doesnt matter how fast you hop. ive seen O3 drop just as hard as anything else in certain spots downtown. tbh if you're doing serious urban work the RC Pro with its dedicated antennas makes more difference than the transmission protocol imo, the antenna orientation and gain matters a lot more than people realise when youre surrounded by buildings doing weird reflections and multipath stuff
