been seeing a lot of debate in different places about this and wanted to get some real opinions from people who have actually run multiple brands rather than just fanboys. im looking at 5inch for mostly freestyle with some light cinematic stuff so nothing crazy, dont need a cinelifter or anything. budget is somewhere around 250-300 for the quad itself.

iFlight Nazgul series keeps coming up and the build quality reputation seems solid but ive also heard people say the ESCs they ship with are a bit marginal and some folks have had them pop after a few hard crashes which like... thats kind of expected but still. Diatone seems to have a more passionate following but the QC inconsistency thing puts me off a little. and then theres the whole argument that at 300 bucks i could just build something with an F7 stack, some decent 2306 motors and have something that outperforms either.

genuinely dont know what the right answer is here. what are people actually daily driving in this price range

the iFlight ESC thing is a bit overblown imo. yeah ive had one pop but i was pushing way over rated current on a 6S setup and thats on me. for normal 4S freestyle the Succex or whatever they're shipping now is fine. the Nazgul eco specifically is actually a pretty good deal if you catch it on sale, frame is solid, motors run cool, and the betaflight defaults arent terrible as a starting point unlike some brands i wont name

that said if you can solder just build it. 300 bucks goes WAY further when you're not paying for someone elses labor and the brand markup. grab a Mephistoma or a similar frame clone, a decent F4 or F7 stack from somewhere like Racedayquads or GetFPV, some 2306 2450kv motors and you'll have a better quad than anything prebuilt in that range. its really not that complicated if you already know how to solder

i ran a Nazgul5 V2 for almost two seasons and it was genuinely great until i binned it into a concrete wall at like 80mph and thats not really a brand flaw. diatone i tried once and had the QC issues people mention, got a dead ESC channel out of the box which was annoying to deal with. so personally id lean iFlight in that price range but honestly either way your flying skill is gonna matter way more than which brand you picked
