ok so this might be a dumb question but ive been flying my air 2s for about 8 months now and every video i shoot in bright conditions looks kind of weird and jittery to me. a friend watched some footage and said the motion looks wrong and i should try nd filters. i looked into it a bit and the whole 180 degree shutter rule thing makes sense in theory but i genuinely dont know if buying a filter set is going to make a huge difference or if this is one of those things people spend money on and then barely notice.

the polarpl ones seem popular and not insanely expensive. was also looking at freewell. anyone gone from not using filters to using them and actually felt like it made a noticeable difference, like on real footage not just a controlled test

yeah it makes a difference, not subtle either. first time i flew with an nd64 on a sunny day the footage looked almost cinematic compared to what i was getting before just cranking the shutter speed up. the motion blur you get when you follow the 180 rule just looks more natural, more like your eyes actually see movement. freewell kit is what i started with and its solid for the price, been happy with it for over a year.

honestly was skeptical too for a long time. i think the thing people dont tell you is that filters alone wont fix everything, you also have to actually slow your shutter down to match and sometimes that means accepting a bit more exposure than you expect. took me a while to get the combo right. but once it clicked yeah the footage looked way better. also if your shooting in like mixed cloudy and sunny conditions the variable nd filters are really handy so you dont have to keep swapping, i have a 2-5 stop variable and it lives on the drone basically permanently now
