ive been flying for about two years now and theres literally zero organized drone stuff in my area, closest club is like 45 mins away and they mostly do fixed wing stuff anyway. been thinking about just posting something on nextdoor or maybe starting a discord to see if theres even anyone local. but like do i need to worry about liability or permits or anything if i just get a few people together at a public park? genuinely have no clue how this works and dont want to accidentally make everyones day worse by getting us kicked out or whatever

permits depend entirely on your city/county, some places dont care at all about a small informal group gathering and some will send someone over within 20 minutes. id start by just calling the parks department and asking, most of the time if youre not charging admission or selling anything they just say go ahead. the discord idea is solid btw, thats how our local group started and we went from like 4 people to almost 60 in the server over two years

dont overthink the liability thing for a casual meetup, youre not running an event youre just flying in a park and other people happen to show up. obviously everyone flies their own gear at their own risk. the harder part honestly is just getting people to actually commit and show up, ive seen so many of these little groups fizzle out after one or two meetups because theres no consistent time or location. pick one morning a month and stick to it no matter what, thats the only thing that worked for us
