so im heading to iceland for two weeks and obviously bringing the mavic. ive done some reading on their rules and it seems pretty straightforward compared to some other countries but honestly the airspace stuff around reykjavik is a bit confusing. like do i need to register the drone there or does my home country registration cover it? also curious if anyones actually flown near the glaciers or around vatnajokull, wondering how the wind is out there because ive heard it can get absolutely brutal.

also any spots people would recommend that arent totally overrun with tourists would be awesome. westfjords maybe? feels like that whole area is underrated

did iceland last summer, the wind near the south coast is no joke. lost control briefly near skogafoss and my heart basically stopped. everything was fine but yeah the gusts come out of nowhere and they dont care about your sport mode settings lol. westfjords is a great call, we barely saw anyone out there and the light in june is insane for flying, basically golden hour all night.

on the registration thing i honestly just checked with the icelandic transport authority website before i went, i think for drones under 250g you might be fine but above that you def want to double check, dont just assume your home reg transfers

vatnajokull is incredible but check the no fly zones carefully around the national park boundaries, there are some restrictions and rangers do patrol. i got a warning (not a fine thankfully) from a ranger who was actually pretty chill about it but still. download the icelandic airspace app before you go, think its called isavia or something like that
