ok so this is kind of stressing me out and i dont totally understand what happened. i was flying my fpv quad near a stadium on a sunday, there was no event going on or anything, it was just a regular afternoon. a security guard came over and told me i was in a no fly zone and said he was going to report me. i left immediately but now im kind of paranoid about whether something is actually going to come of this or if the guy was just being territorial.

i did check the map before going and it showed as class g airspace which i thought meant i was fine. but apparently stadiums have their own rules? i had no idea about that. is this a FAA thing or more of a local ordinance thing because im not sure who would even be contacting me if something does happen. ive been flying for about a year and never had an issue before so this whole thing caught me off guard

stadiums are a weird one and honestly a lot of people dont know about this until they run into it. the FAA has a rule ? its under the special security instructions or something like that ? where stadiums hosting major sporting events have a temporary flight restriction, a TFR, that kicks in automatically. but you said there was no event so that part might not apply.

the thing is even without an active TFR some stadiums and their surrounding areas have local ordinances that restrict drones independently of FAA rules. class G airspace just means you dont need ATC authorization, it doesnt override every other rule that exists. the security guard probably cant actually report you to the FAA himself but if local police got involved thats a diffrent jurisdicton and different rules. honestly if nothing has shown up in a few weeks you're probably fine but worth knowing for next time

security guards say stuff like that all the time and most of the time nothing happens. not saying the rules dont matter but unless an actual cop showed up with your registration info i wouldnt lose sleep over it. still good to look into the stadium thing though because TFRs around events are no joke, those ones the FAA actually does enforce
