trying to learn proper FPV freestyle moves and i feel like im going backwards

okay so this has been bugging me for a while and i finally want to ask because im at this weird plateau. been flying fpv for about eight months, mostly on a 5 inch freestyle quad, rates are set pretty aggresive at this point and i can do basic stuff ? rolls, flips, split s, that kind of thing. but whenever i try to learn something more involved like a juicy or a matty flip i just completely fall apart and cant seem to break it down properly.

i watch the slow motion breakdowns on youtube and i think i understand the inputs but when i actually fly it the timing is just off and i lose orientation every time. simulator time hasnt really been helping as much as i hoped, ive been on velocidrone for a couple months and i feel like the feel is close but not quite the same as real life which throws me off.

anyone been through this kind of wall? do you just grind it or is there some approach that actually helped you click with the more complex maneuvers

the juicy is genuinely hard to learn from video breakdowns because so much of it is about feeling the momentum carry through and knowing when to catch it ? that timing doesnt translate well to watching someone elses hands. what worked for me was breaking it into just the first half of the move over and over until catching that felt automatic before i ever thought about completing the full rotation. like dont even try the full thing for a while, just commit to the entry and recovery, entry and recovery.

also your rates might actually be working against you here? really aggressive rates make orientation recovery harder when youre still learning a new move. i temporarily dialed mine back when i was learning new stuff and it helped me actually understand where the quad was in space instead of just panicking and yanking sticks.

im kind of in the same boat lol, been stuck on getting clean split s exits for like forever. one thing someone told me that i thought was dumb at first but actually helped ? fly the maneuver in your head away from the sticks, like actually visualize the whole input sequence and the quad moving through it, before you go out and try it. sounds weird but i think it helps your brain build the muscle memory pattern before your hands have to do it under pressure
