Do I need to register my DJI Mini if it's under 250g for recreational use?

  • Members

I just bought a DJI Mini 4K that weighs exactly 249g. I've been reading conflicting info online about whether I need to register it with the FAA since it's under the 250g threshold. I'm only planning to fly recreationally in my backyard and local parks.

Also, do I still need to take the TRUST test even if the drone doesn't require registration? Want to make sure I'm 100% legal before my first flight.

Any advice from experienced pilots would be appreciated!

However, you are still required by law to take TRUST and carry proof when flying. Good news: TRUST is free and online.

Most local parks have their own rules too, so check with your city's parks department.
