Inspire 2 still worth it in or just get something else at this point

so ive been running an Inspire 2 with the X7 for about 4 years now and honestly its still pulling weight on most of my commercial gigs but im starting to wonder if the platform is just getting long in the tooth. the thing that bugs me most isnt even the drone itself, its the ecosystem costs ? replacement batteries are getting harder to source without paying stupid prices, and DJI hasnt said anything useful about an Inspire 3 timeline in forever. i did one job last month where the client specifically asked if i was shooting on something "current" which is a weird question but i get it from a liability/insurance standpoint.

the X7 with the 16mm still looks incredible dont get me wrong, CinemaDNG raw on that sensor genuinely holds up in post especially when youre doing a lot of color work. but im also doing more payload stuff now ? been looking at what it would take to mount a M?vi or something similar for stabilized runs and the Inspire 2 isnt exactly built for third party payload work the way some of the Matrice stuff is.

anyone else at this crossroads or am i overthinking it. is there a real upgrade path here that doesnt involve spending like 15k+

the Inspire 3 actually dropped, you might want to look into it if you havent already ? it uses the DL mount same as the X9 series cameras and the obstacle avoidance is way better than the I2. that said yeah its expensive, like really expensive, and if your X7 footage is already getting client sign-off i genuinely dont see the rush unless you need the expanded dynamic range or the thermal/payload stuff the newer airframe opens up.

for payload work i ended up jumping to a Matrice 350 RTK for that side of things and keeping the Inspire for pure cinema. they serve pretty different masters honestly. trying to do both on one platform is kind of a compromise either way.

clients asking if your gear is "current" is such a strange thing to hear, like they cant tell the difference between X7 footage and anything else shot in similar conditions. probably someone who read a press release and decided newer = better. i wouldnt stress it too much unless youre shooting for a production company that has specific tech requirements written into the contract which does happen sometimes in broadcast work.
