okay so ive been flying whoops for like a year and finally decided to do a proper 5inch freestyle build. picked up a Apex HD frame cause a few people on here seemed to like it and grabbed some T-Motor Velox V2 2306 motors. problem is im not totally sure what ESC i should be running with these. the motors are rated at 1750kv and im planning to run 4S.

i was looking at the Aikon AK32 35A but honestly i dont know if thats overkill or not enough or whatever. my mate said just get a 4in1 and be done with it but i kind of want to understand what im doing rather than just copying someone elses build. also is there a general rule for matching amp ratings to motor size or is it just vibes and hope nothing burns

35A should be totally fine for 2306 on 4S, those motors arent gonna pull anywhere near that even in a hard punch out. the rule of thumb most people use is just make sure the ESC burst rating is higher than what the motors can theoretically draw under load, and 35A burst on most modern ESCs is usually closer to 45 or 50 anyway. the Aikon 32bit stuff is solid, ive had one running for almost two years on a similar setup without issues.

the 4in1 vs separate debate is mostly about repairability. if you fry one ESC on a 4in1 stack youre replacing the whole thing, but single ESCs wired to a PDB means you can just swap the dead one. for a first proper build though honestly just go 4in1, less wiring headache while you're still learning the build process.

i ran those exact motors on a 4S build last year, went with a Mamba F722 stack and they felt great. no idea about the Aikon specifically but yeah 35A should be way more than enough. what FC are you pairing it with?
