so ive been building my own quads for about 3 years now and honestly im at the point where i just want to fly more and solder less. been looking at the iflight nazgul evoque and the dji o3 version specifically. my buddy runs one and seems happy but he also came from a long wing background so his bar for freestyle performance is pretty low lol

my concern is always the tuning out of the box. ive read that some of these prebuilts come with a decent betaflight tune but then other people say you basically have to redo everything anyway which defeats the purpose. has anyone actually flown the evoque stock and then done a full retune and noticed a big difference? or is the stock tune actually usable for real freestyle, not just cruising around

also curious how the build quality holds up on crashes. i tend to hit things. a lot.

the evoque o3 is actually pretty solid out of the box, i was surprised. the stock tune isnt going to win any awards but its definitely flyable for general bashing around. i did end up going in and adjusting the master multiplier and tweaking the d term filters after about a week because i could feel the props wash on quick direction changes. nothing crazy, maybe 20 mins in betaflight configurator and it felt way better.

crash durability is fine for a prebuilt, the frame is decent but nothing special. ive snapped two arms in maybe 4 months of flying which isnt terrible. replacement parts are easy to find which is the real win with iflight honestly. the motors are whatever though, i swapped mine out for some of the leftover 2306s i had sitting in a drawer and the tune actually got easier after that weirdly enough

i went prebuilt last year after basically the same reasoning and honestly dont regret it, the time savings are real. the tuning thing is kind of overblown imo ? yeah you can always do better but the stock tune on most of these is good enough that you can actually feel what the quad is doing and then make specific adjustments rather than starting from scratch. way less frustrating than building something and not knowing if a weird feeling is a solder joint or a tune issue or a prop imbalance or whatever
